THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Give me names of (freeware) software to use with Bryce

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 23 September 2002 at 3:13 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 6:49 PM

Need to make a list page of Bryce related freeware we can direct people to. Some have questions, who's answers end up being "grouper", "elefont", etc. So, start giving me names of freeware and links, short description if possible. What I got listed so far; Grouper Elefont Spralizer UVMapper Classic Project Dogwaffle Irfanview Crossroads KnotTyer3D Celtic 3D Knots Fauve's "Matisse in Gray" - if anyone can find this anywhere for download, please post a TESTED link. I have it myself, but the link where I got it, is now dead. It is basically, abandonware. Any other freeware ideas would be appreciated. Modeling Programs - don't worry about listing these, I got a list longer than your arm of these. Thanks AgentSmith

This is not totally free, but the unregistered version can create great starfields, and theres no time limit! Only some of the features are disabled until registration, but its still highly usable unregistered! Universe Image Creator

AgentSmith, I take it you'll be posting that list here? I'm a Bryce purest, but I am finding that I probably need to be doing my complex modeling in another program.

Rich Schafermeyer has got several free modeling programs, and 1 low priced one, all easy to use.

No, I will be compiling various lists in webpage form for the Bryce backroom.

Yep...my question too...how does one access the Bryce back room? Also...I remember spatch being another freeware program. Have yet to unravel how metasequioa works! Its all japanese to me! :-( Is there any forum or community for it? Also there is a terrain editing freeware for Mac...Bsmooth. There is however no windows version for it. :-( Will post more once I come across any links.

I have Fauve Matisse in Gray, fantastic program for the terrain/lattice editor. Came with a modem I bought some time ago. Yes, it does appear to be abandonware. The guy's name and address are on my floppy so one of these days I'll write a letter. I remember sending an email and not getting a response. You can get it at this link above. This appears to be the only site now where it can be found on a working DL.

Say, I just ran across this... *********************** Reviews: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 28 May 01 While very old, an excellent painting program. Too bad Fauve Matisse, the commercial color version didn't survive. I guess the authors sold it to Macromedia, where it evolved into the late xRes program. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 3:01 AM

WOW...thanks for the Fauve link, tried every search engine under the sun after discovering the older link where I got it was dead. Thank You !! Bryce Backroom - Still a big mess, I'm (slowly) re-building it, pixel by pixel. It's gonna house our quick answers to all the regular "How the hell do I" questions. Lists of anything/everything to use with Bryce and/or other 3D programs, tutorials, tips, hidden Bryce stuff, etc, etc. Oh, also all the monthly challenge archives. With server upgrades the link to the old stuff has changed, i will have to go digging deep for it, post it when I find it, lol. Again, thank you, thank you. AgentSmith

I suppose you've got http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/PlantStudio/ but here it is again. http://www.bantam3d.com/ where you have Grass and Scatter. First is a grass-creating programlet, and Scatter clones objects and creates groups. http://www.imagos.fl.net.au/ is Breeze Designer. Free ... modeller? Intended to work with POV-Ray, but I think you can import that format into Bryce. http://www.tb-software.com/products.html is where you have 3D Win, a 3D format converter. Shareware with some limitations. http://www.gimp.org/download.html Free Photoshop-alike program

BTW, I went and downloaded Celtic Knots 3D, and found another, similar program, Pretzangles: http://www.pretzangles.com/ And I forgot about L-System: http://www.geocities.com/tperz/L4Home.htm I'll probably remember something else later or when I get home. :-)

http://www.bantam3d.com/ Grass (version 6) is an application that generates sophisticated 3D ground cover such as grass, leaves, and rocks (yeah, it can make rocks!). Even the most beautiful grass can be modeled easily. Price FREE. Scatter (version 4) is an application that clones objects and scatters the clones within a defined area and space. All clones vary in look and orientation. Price FREE

Had a query. Is there a software similiar to Bsmooth for windows, which uses greyscale to model? Have also provided the Metasequoia link. But am still looking for any Metasequoia forum.

Allen9 ( ) posted Tue, 24 September 2002 at 1:30 PM

For those still using Bryce 4 (like me) the Bryce Librarian from www.wolfiesden.com is an absolute must. It allows you to have multiple preset libraries and swap them in & out of the limited B4 preset slots on the fly.

lsstrout ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 4:11 PM

I have no other freeware to suggest, but I wanted to post my undying thanks to AgentSmith for organizing the challenge gallery and this Bryce Backroom area. I know what hard work organizing information is, so your efforts are deeply appreciated. Lin

Metal fixer and grouper are a must if you use poser exports.... There is a program, I wanna say starbits but I'm not sure and not at my computer....makes great starfields if you ever get sick of bryce's. (did they fix that in b5?)
