Subject: Q: Shading Poser figures in Carrara

october ( ) posted Fri, 24 March 2000 at 5:35 PM · edited Sun, 18 August 2024 at 6:38 PM

Does anyone have a good method for shading Poser 4 figures in Carrara? I can import OBJ files fine and they will hold textures exceeding well, but I have little luck with replacing a shader settings on a single layer. I'm experimenting with using 2 colors with the wood mixer in the color channel of the skin layer, but it seems the scale of the Poser figure is so small that all I can get are stripes... even if I set global scale to 1. The cellular mixer hardly works at all. I have had luck with LHS' Lumber Yard though. In Carrara I've tried enlarging the Poser figure, but it doesn't do any good. Is there any way to set the scale during the export from Poser? I have been able to convert the figure to a vertex model, and it does seem to work but has several drawbacks... broken seems, loss of the shader layer names, and some other bad things that I can't think of right now. Oh, hey Eric, the wooden mannequin you posted... is that from Poser and did you shade it in Carrara?

Ahh, ok. I was hoping it was the Poser mannequin, and to get some tips from you about Poser in Carrara. Thanks for the quick response! later

One thing I can tell you from here is that when I exported them, I used 3d Studio, rather than OBJ format... That may have made them easier to shade... I had to go through each piece (Kind of a pain, but made it easy to make sure I got everything...) Aeryk
