Wow, great. I haven't found half what's in Poser5 yet. I have actually changed the defaults using 'memorize figure' before (so it's even sillier of me not to have noticed than it otherwise would be, just one of those things I guess). Theoretically you could make the default whatever you want so resetting it can be whatever you need it to be. It just didn't occur to me to do it that way.

...shouldn't have P5 have fixed the obvious mistakes of P4, instead of trying to come out with something new ?!

But the library crowding problem was a MAJOR complaint of everyone - especially after MAT files got popular. Folks complained that you couldn't even access some files at the bottom of long lists. We were moving files to the camera and light sections to find room. The nesting folders, drop-down operations menus, multiple Runtime linking, etc. are a huge improvement. (Handspan, check out that upper-right arrow drop-down menu - you can also Memorize or Restore the current settings from there!) I use Ctrl-Shift-N all the time to toggle the tabbed Parameters/Properties palette on and off. Of course, being us, we've already been throwing ideas around for improvements :-) I think folks are building up unreasonable expectations for the DAZ program. It's not going to be able to do everything right out of the gate. My hope is that it does a few complimentary things Poser doesn't and does them really well - the more tools the better. (Right now, I just want to get my Poser work back on my Mac!) Elisa/gryffnn

My main expectation is that it work as well or better than Poser 4; anything else is icing. : ) (Don't give me wrong, though, I love icing.) Something else I thought of that would be nice: a more standard interface. Why reinvent the wheel and make everyone learn a new interface? Go with the standard that's in most products and that everyone's used to (with the changes necessary for a 3D program, of course.)

I'll be finding out very shortly how good or bad poser5 is, I've just finished installing it :)

whatever they come out with they should take a LOW key approach initially and avoid the overhype that inevitably leads to dissapointed users who were expecting the power of MAYA with the ease and price of poser

...whatever they come out with they should take a LOW key approach initially... Well, I for one am really looking forward to the DALI option that will guarantee anything I do with it will sell for $500,000+. I do think they're going overboard with the "Latte" and "Espresso" buttons though. If it just made my coffee strong and black that's good enough. Actually, DAZ doesn't really have to worry about overhyping it. As professional Poser groupies we'll do all the overhyping for them LOL! Seriously though, if DAZ runs too low key then everyone will just yawn. BUt as you say, too much hype leads to user letdown/meltdown. It's a twisted line to crawl. - Jack

OK, here's my 2 cents A real "Undo" preferably multiple ones 4 view screens, scalable File management! nested folders, delete, rename, a way to group -- Kinda like the way Netscape7 or Explorer handle bookmarks Install 3rd party stuff without having to restart Real world measurement tools, i.e. if "dork" is supposed to 6ft then thats your benchmark A screen that DOESN'T take over your whole monitor Layers, and an abilty to group and hide them-- see Photoshop 7 An accurate HiRes Seam guide Real time hires 3D painting tools (hey nobody said I had to be realistic) Export to Bryce dammit. Under $200 Well that's more like 3 cents, but thats just me. Jon IMHO of course

Spratman, please elaborate on your wish: "An accurate HiRes Seam guide"

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 25 September 2002 at 6:23 PM

I would also like the ability to have one screen .. I can't stand the 4 screen thing to be honest. And I like the taking over the whole window. .. Much less clutter in the background.

spratman ( ) posted Thu, 26 September 2002 at 8:59 AM

You know a seam guide. A high resolution map showing where front and back texture maps line up. I mean freebie 3rd party ones for Vicky are available now but how long did that take? Or even better, a way to easily line up the front and back texture maps. Far as the sceen issue. How about a user definable set up, since some people hate the 4 view. I tend to jump back and forth between programs so that's why I consider a "floating" window importatnt. Sorry never did like Kai's interface.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Fri, 27 September 2002 at 12:19 PM

I like to jump between programs as well but I just hide the program (Not sure if you can do that on a PC). But tha way the clutter is less. I can't stand programs with tons of floating windows where a miss click hits destops etc.
