A non-creative issure here. How do you all feel about the censorship issue. I personaly think that goverment sponsered censorship is unconstitutional (In the case of the US) and against human right (ALL COUNTRIES). I firmly believe that I should have the right to publish what I want, when I want, without having to worry about getting arressted for publishing "obscene" material. Any thoughts on this would be more than welcome. I can be reached on this topic ONLY at b10241972@yahoo.com, please dont send my jokes or anything else like that. And the digital freedom network at www.dfn.org is also a good place to go. Now the creative part.... Lying broken across a table full of the shards of life There is but one way for me to find salvation Streched across the gloom and the darkness of the night I reach for the sky but intead I find a war of attrition. Good, bad, I dont know. Please comment.

IMHO, it depends on what the "censorship" is banning. All individual freedoms (ie, Freedom of Speech) must be tempered with the "greater good" of the masses. Classical cases in point: Yelling "Fire" in a public building or "Bomb" on an airplane. Although you do, by the nature of Freedom of Speech, possess the "right" to yell either word, the resultant chaos and potential for adverse outcomes in those situations do, IMHO, outweigh the personal freedom. This topic, (like politics, religion, etc), has been debated endlessly and, I fear, there will never be an adequate solution to appease all sides of the issue.

I support censorship as long as it is applied against the things I don't like. However in the case of the things I do like. Well in those cases it is just not right.

Knot, lol That is precisely what the majority of people feel.

What about an ancient Eupropean slogan: (quote) "It is forbidden to forbid !!!" ... instead of the today's one: "You're forbidden to tell the truth, or else, you are a bad American." ???

What if an author wnats to write about their desire to do things to children. My child. Your child. What if what is said will defame you, even though it's untrue. No censorship - means no holds barred. If we say 'everything' all inclusive then we must mean everything with no exceptions. If we allow a couple 'somethings' then we're right back to where we started from. No censorship means I can pay a newspaper to post "I think John Doe should be killed" and no one could stop it from being printed. What if instead of John Doe it was my name or your name. Censorship sucks but it also protects the defenseless. That's not to say I don't agree with your sentiment Topgunner. I value my freedoms. These may be blown out examples but I think they convey my point by personalizing the worst case scenario. One other thing to consider is that language is not the only means of communication. Actions are a means of communication also. Would no censorship mean that any action that was intended to communicate a message was allowable also?
