THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Poser 3 for "free" Information

Ran across this tonight and the subject pops up every once in a while so, I thought I would post it up. The 3D magazine, "Computer Arts" (UK) carried an issue at one time that offered MetaCreations/Curious Labs's "Poser" Version 3 for free in it's magazine content CD. Seems they still offer that issue for backorder. It is issue #67, Feb. 2002. If I did the currency converter right it looks like it will cost $14.01 U.S. Dollars. That includes shippng/handling. So, if you have no Poser...for $14 you can at least have v3.0

3D world issue 5 has the free version too. I don't know if it's for sale or if it's cheaper than Computerarts, but it's worth a look.

Yeah, I had checked for 3D World's issue #5, it's all sold out, no back issues available. ;o{ 3D world has a nifty little .pdf showing all their available issues, with short descriptions. http://www.3dworldmag.com/backissues.pdf AgentSmith

Issue #1 (July 2000) of 3D World does have Bryce 3D (full). Issues are still available.

There are many more free programs from 3DWorld. I have all the 3Dworld issues from #1 to the latest issue (I think #30). I can try to make a list if I have time.

Anybody know if Bryce 4 or Poser 4 will be offered for free anytime soon? Bryce 3D was offered when Bryce 4 first came out. You would think that with the impending release of Bryce 6 and Bryce 5 being out for a while now, Bryce 4 would be offered. Or is it because Bryce 3D and Poser 3 were old Metacreations products whereas Bryce 4 was Corel and Poser 4 was Curious Labs? Just curious.

Rayraz ( ) posted Fri, 27 September 2002 at 8:55 AM

I wish I could give you an answer, but the people that make Bryce and Poser just don't tell very much about making older versions free. Wich is understandable, because if they would tell 'We are going to make poser4 and Bryce4 free' everyone would just wait until they are free and not buy them. And if a company wants to do one thing it is making money. (even they have to pay their bills)

Actually, Bryce 4 and Poser 4 are also MetaCreations, just so happens that was the versions that were around when the company sold. Don't know about Free Bryce 4. Bryce as a renderer seems to be very popular, even with those that don't use it for anything else. Don't know how many times I have seen in an artists comments "model built in 3D Studio Max...rendered in Bryce" Why render in Bryce if you have a $3500 program? `Cause Bryce is easy to render with. Anyway...I digress. Free Bryce 4 would be cool/great for the masses, it's not like you can (really) buy it new anywhere anymore. Even the place online I would give to people to buy it ($80) is now gone. So, why not offer it? Don't know, I'm sure Corel has a plan... AgentSmith

Would be cool for all the 'bryce 3D or even older' users with a small to non-existent budget if they make Bryce4 free.

Exactly. Even if it came with just the base program/materials, etc. Except for the extra content mat's, I've never used any of the additional models or anything.

I have only used Bryce 4 for 15 minutes. I had Bryce 3D at home and later I bought Bryce 5.

Don't really know what B4 has that B3D doesn't have.
