48 hours at a "shipped" status, and still no e-mail. I got a reply from international support which is basically the same as the one above, so guess they havent got a clue either.. Im only 1 1/2 hrs drive from Dublin, wonder how long their office is open tonight?

Just got the e-mail in... left Dublin at 17:19, so should get it tomorrow.... yee ha..... Now for the first of many questions. On my wee home network I have WIN 2K Pro; WIN 2K Server; WIN XP pro/home; and various shades of Linux. All the PCs are fairly beefy, AMD 2Mhz or more, 1Gb memory, 100Gb HD at least, and decent video cards in all of them..... So where do I install P5? Which platform has proved to be the most stable? I have read about possible probs with AMD processors, so do I stick with the WIN 2KPro PC which is the only one with "intel inside"? I havnt even got the thing yet and already Im worrying!

well the obvious answer is the most stable would be Linux(why oh why do we not have a linux poser????)
other than that it looks from the posting about the subject that a stable fully patched Win2K Pro is your safest bet (and that is what I am putting my copy on)

Likewise I have a mixed Linux(mandrake)/Win2k server/Pro

I didn't go XP mainly because of the licensing procedures

I do wonder that the fancy XP GUI is more trouble than it is worth.

I experimented with something called Object Desktop that made it possible to skin win2k just like XP (in fact Object Desktop is incorporated into XP now)
I stopped using because of the huge system overhead and the fact that some programs just did not like being put in a skinned environment - quicktime would hard crash my machine.

At that time I was using an Nvidia card and threw it out for a ATI Radeon (I liked the colours better on the radeon)

So if I were you I would stick your bundle of joy on the Intel machine. No incompatibility with promise chips and AMD-although I use an AMD on my main system and is stable even when seriously overclocked.

Hi PaulC, I have tried running p4 on the Linux box under WINE... It ran OK, if a little slow, and if it crashed I just started another VP and tried again. I will have to makesure I have all the service packs installed on the WIN2K box.... Guess Im going to have a busy w/e ahead..... and Im suposed to be looking for a new job.. "her indoors" isnt going to be very happy with me for the next week or so.... I have the latest ATI radeon with 128Mb set aside for one of the boxes, it wont help P5, but it makes the games worth while..

I have a dual monitor set-up on my main development PC (21" CRT and a 17" TFT), and a KVM switch for most of the others; other wise Id be swamped in screens. "She" cant understand why I need so many PCs.. Havent tried CFS yet, but am tempted.. The only game I actually have is Stormovik; damn difficult just to keep the thing in the air!.

Mine left dublin last night at 21:18... went to East Midlands for some reason, then back over to Ireland... I had been sitting waiting for the door bell.. by 12:00 I needed to get to the shops, when I opened to door the box was sitting there, dont know for how long, didnt hear the van arive.. but at least I have it! Now the fun begins!

Mine was delivered at 11:00 am today, and promptly taken back to Swindon as I was at work. Bugger! Now it's coming Monday instead. Maybe I can patch'n'install at the same time!! :)

CL Itntl support say I will get mine early next week. Still no explanation as to why it wasn't dealt with on a first come first served basis.

Having a Node Mode Moment - my first render was a tastful little number called soap bubble sitting on Rusty square

Install went really well and I had an easy registration too

This response code thingy reminds me of late sixties free form poetry.

Somewhat bemused at the general reports of slowness - even with firefly it chugged along quite nicely. This on an oldish AMD 1.2GHz with 512Mb ram (and an ATI Radeon)

Put the Poser 4 runtime into the libraries- stuff like that

Nope the little bugger is still running in the background as I type. My test was a Vicky 2 render with the SteffyZ Gaia

pressed go and away the AMD chugged with me watching the task manager to see how much memory was committed (lots) but interestingly very little cpu time. (aound 60% with peaks up on the 100% but not for long)

The program is huge and its going to take a long long time before anybody can get their head round everything.

Before the install - defragged all of my hard discs.

During intitial setup I could render so I reset all of the hard discs virtual memory setting so there was this echoing void of disc space for the renders - it worked and is working still.
Must go now I have a Chrome marble on a steel plate feeling coming on.

Ha we've obviously got a North Wilts Poser user group here Narsil and Raven! I agree about the slowness reports_ I was happily rendering away (AMD processor) skipping along_ and thought I should try the firefly render_only to find I was using that already!! The P4 renderer was a tadd quiker still. Admittedly this was with a default figure with no dynamic hair or cloth. I too followed advice of our US trailblazers and defragged prior to install. I've had some of the freeze ups with changing rooms too quick but not to the degree I had feared from the early posts. Still early days and at present I'm just checking it does all the things ProPak does.

Blimey I've just been playing with the clothing room. I think I had better go for a little lie down! I wonder why North Wilts is blest with us all Noggin and Raven? I must give credit to our Cousins across the water though. Without their efforts in trailblazing and some extremely helpful tutorials I would be far slower to pick my way through some of the quirks of this little gem. Right its time for me to stop wibbling PaulC

Mine arrived today, about 10:30. Now the North Wilts P5 User Group is complete :) Now I'm off to work to make some cars :(
