I'm for it.

Any word at all?

Bobasaur ( ) posted Mon, 30 September 2002 at 9:02 PM

I'm assuming Spike and "we" at least discussed it over the weekend. I'd imagine they'd still need a few days to examine the possibilities with the techie people.

The animation gallery would be great!!! I agree with Rayraz in regards to allocated space per member with the option of paying a monthly to upgrade for more space.

I'm for it. It would be good if we could post Flash and Shockwave files too.

Bobasaur ( ) posted Wed, 02 October 2002 at 6:51 PM

I agree with the Flash & Shockwave. That's animation too!!!

WOW! And to think...I was browsing around through animations..thinking where are all of the animations? This looks as if it's a pretty active place and I personally LOVE animation and would like to be part of a community that is active with it :) Glad it's on the way:)

The desire to create animations is my big motivation for getting into 3D computer graphics in the first place and I'm more than ready to have an animation gallery!

There are some major issues that need to be taken into account such as bandwidth... that is our largest one. We are looking into this and trying to decide how to proceed. If we have not posted it may take us some time to identify all the issues and process them. Will keep you updated. thanks tammy

Well...I thought I would put my "okay" on this thread too...may I make a suggestion?? Maybe for this kind of forum...perhaps the members can somehow "host" the material they wish to share themselves?? Somehow?? Think it be worth it? I haven't read all the above...so apologies if this thought has already been processed...and also this one...I think it be way cool to have a forum like this with so many awsome animation tools out there making the big time...even 3Dmax itself is one big wingding program with this feature....but the biggest baby right now seems to be "after effects"...oh...and don't forget "flash" itself....kinda surprised we don't already have a forum dedicated to this software alone considering how BIGTIME it is...on the 3D scene... Cheers and be well.

I think the current limit of 512 kB is adequate for a Flash gallery. As for movies... I get some astounding good compression with MPEG4 codecs. ;)

Tammy,

Thanks for the status report. I understand that bandwidth is the biggest issue. That (to reiterate for Pete_) is why I initially suggested that we (the animators) host our own movies offsite (many of us already do). The only thing that Renderosity would have to host is a Preview picture and whatever text we write in our artist comments.

One option for those who don't have their own sites might be to pay Renderosity/Bondware rent for server space. That would bring about some administrative overhead but might still be a nice supplement to Bondwares' income streams.

I know it's a tough call. It's obvious that there's a demand for it within the community, but implementing it definately requires careful thought. Server space is never really free.

Comments well said by Bobasaur: I am one of the animators that don't have their own sites for animations. I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee for having one here at Renderosity. If it turns out that I would have to pay for a site elsewhere, but an animation gallery would be possible, well then... I would be ok with that too. The fact remains that an animation gallery is needed here at Renderosity.

Good turnout for this suggestion. I'm in. I read every animation thread that I come across. Would be great to have one location for the threads and the hosting, well, bobasour has an idea there.

Hi all, The animation section of the Free Stuff is now open. As of now, it's not a gallery, per se, but it's a first step. A big THANK YOU to tutone123 for making this happen!
