Subject: Bryce/Vue

Sorry, i'm sure this is an overdone topic, but I wanted to get other People's opinions on each. I own Bryce and i'm happy with it, I just see some really realistic stuff coming out of Vue. Is it worth having both? Gonna post this in the other forum too. Thanks,

Vue (baaaad!) Bryce (Gooood!). Nuff said.

Might be worth owning both if you're a poser person. Vue seems to be more compatable with P4. I only have the demo of vue but have followed the threads. From what I can tell, Vue doesn't get my money just yet since Bryce is the better package for scene creation IMHO. The only thing that has my interest in Vue is the Poser integration and that seems to be not so hot with P5. Me, I'm going to wait for B6 and see if it integrats. If not, I'm ditching Bryce and either going SOftimage or lightwave.

i use both i feel that vue has better sky's and bryce is easyer to use i just wish it was possible to export a working project from bryce to vue and vice versa.

Well, to be totally honest, the best landscape images I've seen (without postwork, that is) have come from Vue. Having said that, most of the Vue-produced stuff just looks like a scratchy mess, so overall Bryce still does it for me!

It may not be scratchy here but Bryce's trees are sooo much better in close up, can be textured more easily, and can actually be edited. What I've heard is that they are similar in so many ways. I like the heirarchy Vue has better than Bryce's old fashioned one list menus. And Vue has some nice things in its terrain editor. No symlats though that I'm aware of. It's a bit more difficult to position stuff in scenes in Vue I've heard and has anyone scene any abstract stuff done with Vue? I'm curious. But one other thing I heard from an extensive user of both is that to get the equivalent in render quality, Vue is slower. But if you're not as concerned with quality, Vue can render faster than Bryce. Might account for the 'scratchy' renders. I personally think Vue has some ambience problems though that may be the users. For getting stuff into Bryce from Poser we've got Grouper (free) which is no slouch and also Natural Pose 2 looks like a good possibility. I've heard Vue has better skys but Bryce's materials win hands down. Nothing beats the DTE (yeah, I hear you all groan, but it's not that bad..really!..anyway when we've got folks such as Jonathan Allen who know the DTE inside out and backwards, you can leave the work to him ) If I had money to spare I'd pick up Vue and play. I had version 2 which I wasn't impressed with but that was a long time ago. It would take a heckuva lot though to get Bryce outa my hands.

Yes, you can do abstracts in Vue much the same as Bryce. I have both Vue4 and Bryce5 and love them both, the working methods differ slightly, I like the fact you can spin a Bryce scene around and back. Distance is a problem in Vue, getting things to look farrrr away, but I like the terrian editor. They both have their strong points and weaknesses. I know, they need to be combined so we can have the best of both worlds! :)
