Subject: Stupid Question #37 - P5 Update install order?

dcasey0284 ( ) posted Fri, 04 October 2002 at 3:14 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 10:17 PM

If you doenload the application update and content update separately, does it matter what order you install the updates? Inquiring minds want to know!

Dont think so.I dl only the application installer till now. and i would install it first.

Shouldn't matter what order you do it in. Just be sure to update the XML preference files (separate download) after installing the Application or Full SR-1. Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

Anthony.. Does that mean that the NEW patch that is on the site right now still isn't fixed? I mean do peeps still have to download both the 47,7Mb AND a "patch for the patch"? If so, why was the patch taken off line in the first place?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Excellent question, sorry, let me clarify: If you already installed the OLD SR-1, then download the preferences files. If you have NOT installed the OLD SR-1, then download the NEW preference files.

"If you have NOT installed the OLD SR-1, then download the NEW preference files." In the words of Firesign Theater, "We're all Bozos on this bus." Do you mean if you have NOT installed the OLD SR-1, then download the NEW SR-1? Or...now I'm really confused. Sorry, Nosfiratu, for being so dense.

its really confusing:-)) i dl the update 4 hours ago( seems it has been a new update after the first) but i thought the update for the preffiles was only for the first update .

That's what I thought too.

I suppose they could have called the new update with the preference patch SR-1a, but that would have led to less confusion. :0)

Old patch...Old new patch...new patch...new new patch? Is the patch one day old yet? Super sized files that the average joe can't download, and broadband users have problems with...Patches the crash your computer. Please give me a break. CL, at least keep us posted on what you're doing about these problem. I know your working on a fix for the fix, etc, but what about th download problems? File size along is a big problem, are you going to put the fix on a CD(when the fix is fixed of course)? If a CD, are you going to charge your customers for YOUR mistakes?

CL First there was the all that bitt with registraion, and copyright thing. The people who bought P5 are on your side, they like the program and really want it to work. They just want a program which they paid good money for...to work. A reasonable expection don't you think? I understand all programs have some problems, and some were to be expected with poser(81 on the first run through?), and more are likely to show up later. I just think that considering all the complaints, more care could have been taken with the (fix?) I purchased on day one of the P5 release (I had it shipped overnight, so I could get right to work...what a waste of money), and I can't even get a "Fixed", fix. Once the fix is fixed, how can I get a copy of it? For those who do not have broadband, will there be a CD available?, and will you charge shipping and handling? Don't you think CL should pay the cost of fixing your mistakes? All I ask is P5 work like it should, without costing me more money. Would you please help me get to that point?
