Subject: October contest rule question, and possible error?

Alekssander ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 3:36 AM ยท edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 3:42 PM

I got a question. " You cannot add ANY character (people or animals, nor skeletons or cartoon figures, nor parts of it)." Can I use statues in this contest? Let's say I make a firplace, and use statues to make it gorgeous. Would I then not be able to use it? Honestly Columns = Cut stone = Statues. So Colums are a kind of statue, so all statues should be alowed. Right? :) Is there an error in the columns? There seems to be a gap between two of the parts, or did I (or the ghost in vue) accidentaly move something?

Statues: no! (because if we allow statues, we also allow skeletons and whatever. Statues are figures.) I have not moved any thing, just toke off what was outside the view. But if there is really an accidental gap, repair it:-) Guitta

Then I drop this contest so far. Just to many rules ;) Skeletons = dead people not= statues ? Statues = "dead" stone. "Dead" stone not= skeletons or dead people.. Simple maths..... ? If I make a blob that accidentaly looks like a person, what then..... ? "But if there is really an accidental gap, repair it" How? Don't want to mess with the rules, you know ;) So you solve the problem ;p ... could be tricky... hmmmmm Is Carrara worth all this problem? (yeah I know, got to much free time..)

I'm sorry if you drop it Alekssander, but of course there is no obligation to participate:-) May be better I keep my time for something else then to organize contests? Guitta

No, I think you do a great job. It's more of a challenge when you have these rules, and it's more fear to the new vuers and those who don't have a lot of software. :) But I'm been struggling between to contests, where I use more or less the same objects. One where I can win needed software, but have a lot's of rules. The other one, where it's more or less the title, but have an almost impossible 2550 rendering.

NightVoice ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 12:41 PM

Yes, there is a gap there, but when rendered out, you don't see the gap, it just looks like the top part is back a bit. DON'T move it if it bothers you(since that is not allowed), hide it with objects infront of it or lighting or add another block. Either way, everbody will have the same set up for those pieces so don't worry about it. :)

Also, the rules are not that bad. Just don't use any objects that are people or creatures/animals. I think we all know the difference between a blob that kinda has a shape like a person and a real poser figure with a stone texture on it to look like statues. :)

I think uncle Hyronimus's architect was not as good. Maybe the missing stone broke?? Who knows. The house is old and not in a very good health. An who cannot play with the rules cannot play. For the price of such prizes you want an image you can do in 1 hour or less? The valor of the second prize is not to forget: 270$!!! As NightVoice says, just add a piece if you like. And for the statues he's right also:-). Good luck to all:-) Guitta

I have done about 15 renderings so far, and you see the gap and it looks odd. I was thinking more about to change the size of the block beneath in hight? Guitta didn't write anything about that. Resizing the scene was illigal, but not specific objects? And it isn't illigal to place an extra stone... The columns would fall down, unless they mysteriously hang in the air?

gebe ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 1:48 PM

In the rukes is written: You cannot take off nor change position of ANY of the already included components.

Alekssander ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 3:15 PM

Take off nor change position is not the same as resizing.. ;p Then you should have written. You can not modify, remove or move any of the already included components. Yes I know, I'm being childish... :)

As for the gap thing, I checked the original file and I can say you that the inversed pyramid you can see on the alekssander posted screen capture is meant to be placed at the gap's place... now, question is : 'could you change this without breaking the rules ?' Gebe, we need your voice !!! :-) As for the rules, there are only three : - no figures - no change in elements of the original scene (except textures) - no criminal investigation looking scenes ! :-) I suppose we can handle with that... MightyPete ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 9:38 PM

It must have fallen down because after it was edited to reduce it size it probibly was no longer grouped properly. Martha bring me a Really Big Jack !!!!!!!!

MightyPete ( ) posted Sat, 05 October 2002 at 9:43 PM
