i thinking about to update to Poser5. I hear about that there should be a problem between Poser 5 and WIn 98. It only use 128 of the RAM and render very very slow. No problems on WIN XP. I have a P3 500 704SD RAM WIN 98 It works ok.But i think to update it on a Duron 1300 with 768 SD RAM. But i dont want a XP System.? Can i use Poser5 or better stay with Poser4.2 pro? normaly i render in cinemaxl..but P5 have no export plugin for cinema too.. so hear many good ans many bad about P5 without knowing what i right or what should i do

first I would suggest an OS that allows you to really use the memory you have. win98 doesn't it will "see" all of it and tell you it is using it, but it is only effectivly using 256. Past that it really is your call, I use P5 with the patch and it runs and renders pretty well. some bugs yes but I'm able to get around most of them. However you will read in the forums some real horror tales and some brilliant successes. pretty much right down the middle. I like it and I do a ton of the firefly renders because it's faster for my system.

i have 256 MB ram on my 266 Mhz Win98 system and it runs ok. your specs sound much better than mine. i don't think you'll have any trouble...

True Windows 98 and Windows ME can only use 128 meg of Ram per program running. But there is a program that will allow 98 & ME to use all the Ram you have for a program. It's called Cacheman and you can find it here. It work great really good.

I'll second that, cacheman is the only really good mem manager for win98. The only other advantage to having more than 256mb in w98 is that you can have more than one memory hungry proggy running at one time.

Hiya, Be careful with this one... I have a P3-450 on Win98SE with 384 MB (running Cacheman) and it hasn't run once. If you want to hear more, check the thread "CL throws up its hands...". Best of luck, Bonzai Gopher

Yeh! Make sure you have a P3 500 or better. ;)
