I am in the process of upgrading to a P4-2.4 Ghz system and decided to back up my Poser directory. I didn't realize it had grown so big! I've shown you mine, now show me yours!

Mine easily exceeds 30Gb, and I think that's 'size on disk', too. I'm not at my home station so I can't post a pic, but maybe I will later.

OK, I know I shouldn't have shown up for the 'largest poser directory' contest, but how about this;

The system I'm running Poser4 on is a 300MHz PII, 62Mb Ram, with a 6Gig HD (671Mb free)!
The wife says I gotta pay off the car before I can get a new computer :( Yes, Poser runs on this thing, usually.

Anyone running Poser on a weaker machine?

31 Gig?

dcasey0284 ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 1:51 AM

Well, I think xenic101 is in the lead for sheer determination at this point. Leather-guy, you got me beat for the moment. We've got 31 Gigs. Do I hear 32?

leather guy takes the cake. Here's my feeble attempt.

Now let me see you top this one, and I know many can... this is literally my first bryce 5 file.

and here's what it looks like.... Wings and feet were posed in Metasequoia before I owned Poser. This was a 3dcafe pteradon that I used the magnet tool to move various parts of the mesh. Poser is so much easier! Especially after boneing!

My Poser folder is 48 Gig, Then there's all the backups and freebies and bought stuff etc.... which is about the same amount spread over different disksand cd-roms, so total is easily over 90 Gig. Well, I've been at it since '97.... :] Fish

You guys have made me feel so much better! I was getting a little worried that I had "over stuffed" my Poser....now I know it can take a lot more stuffing. I have an additional 9.7 GB of downloads, stored and unzipped files and an additional "runtime" folder (6.2GB) with my older stuff on it. This is on a P4/2 GHz/512 RAM. Diane

dcasey0284 ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 6:22 AM

OK, FishNose. I think you win although Xenic101 still deserves some credit for using a machine that was made in 1997. And EricofSD slipped that Bryce image in there...which is, uh, relevant how? :)

...check the link... we've been running an ongoing Poll. I think Fishnose listed a 43GB Runtime directory. I merged my P4 and P5 Runtime directories, which gives me a total of around 4GB or so. My last backup of /.../Runtime yielded a 1.16 GB .zip file :) /P

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 10:13 AM

my Poser4 runtime was 4.9Gb till yesterday when I deleted it, I decided to scrap Poser4 & do a clean install of the stuff I use the most into Poser5.

"Anyone running Poser on a weaker machine?" Yes. I'm on a 233MHz iMac with 260mb of RAM (upgraded from the 32mb it shipped with), 4GB hard drive. My Runtime is currently 1.25 GB and I have 610mb free.

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 10:54 AM

I used to use Poser4 on a pentium 1 200Mhz with 64Mb Ram, I love pain ;)

creativechaos ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 12:31 PM

I don't feel so bad now with my lil ole 14.4gig runtime folder ;) I thought I was nuts!

I noticed P5 creates and keeps oodles of "tmp" files... I usually hunt em down and trash 'em... doesn't seem to hurt anything. I personally think it should clean up after itself when you close a session.

I thought mine was big at 24G but Leather-guy has me beat and Fishnose wipes up the floor with me-- and I am the queen of FS. But, I haven't loaded it all-- most of my Posette texs are still in zip for that mythical day when I will try to imitate Yoshitako Amano.:)) Emily, too damn lazy to make a jpg

volfin ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 6:22 PM

Great picture Eric. Well, I am glad I don't have the biggest directory. I was just so amazed at how big it had grown though. Fishnose must be quite the packrat! Thanks for sharing guys and gals.

macmullin ( ) posted Tue, 08 October 2002 at 8:48 PM

Bigger is not necessarily better - it's how you use it! :-)
