THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Help with Obj

Okay, this is a completely stupid question but...is there a program out there that will convert my Bryce 5 obps to say -obj? Failing that is there a way to save my B5 objects so they are compatiable with Bryce 4? I can't seem to find anything on it in Susan's book.

If you import an obj, etc, from another file, you can texture in Bryce and export it with the texture in a .mtl file. But if you created useing primatives, sorry, no export other than .obp and no conversion.

There isn't a program out there... But boy does someone need to make one. Either that... or bryce needs some deformer tools and mesh editors. If Bryce had those it would definitly be a lot better. But oh well. maybe 6.0

Secret tip, you CAN export meshes you imported back out in Bryce, hit the "E" for edit, then CTRL + D keys. Lets you export them in various formats. So say you import a star ship, texture it in bryce then you can export it with textures. But apart formt hat yup, can only export terraisn lattices. yeah stroll on Bryce 6, oh for particles, better volumetrics, faster renders...

no, no plugins...let the program be complete enough that iot doesn;t need them.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 12:55 AM

Oh, trust me you want plug-in support. How much better is 3D Studio max with the plug-ins Final Render or Brazil?

And Truespace would be nothing without the plug-in. Plug-ins are great to improve software.

they're great if you want that extra feature that didn't get put in the final build...or if you have a wish list for the next version, and can't wait to see what will be released =c)

electroglyph ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 10:42 AM

Silverblade E + ctrl+D only duplicates in bryce 5. I'd love to be able to import an obj and texture in bryce then export and use in poser. By meshes do you mean all meshes or just terrains?

airflamesred ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 3:38 PM

edit (smooth/unsmooth) then ctrl D. An easier way is to get a modelling program (free) and use that to make the objects you need.I noe use metasequioa more than either booleans or terrain.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 09 October 2002 at 10:42 PM

Any mesh that is originally imported into Bryce and not built within Bryce can be exported. Terrains and Lattices can be exported (obviously) You can import a mesh, texture it, export it out. But, whatever DTE textures you put on your mesh will not go with the exported mesh. So, there goes that wish. ;o( Textures that are put onto terrains, are exported out with the mesh, but they don't look nearly as good when re-applied in another program.
