Subject: Mac OS9 will not let me install RDS 5.0

ominousplay ( ) posted Tue, 28 March 2000 at 8:42 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 2:08 PM

I just today installed OS9 on my G3 233 desktop and it wouldn't run RDS 5, well I'm trying to re-install and nothing, it gives me a four digit error message. any ideas? do I need to upgrade the OS9 or patch or what? I can't install a patch for RDS 5.0 like 5.0.2 or 5.0.4 if I don't have it already installed...what am I to do?

hmm... (clint scratches his head and wishes he knew something, anything about MAC's). So, MAC guys - Can we help out Omniousplay? Clint PS - You might try MetaCreations Tech support phone number.

Though it may be no consolation, I install and run RDS 5.5 under system 9 just fine. I will try to install RDS 5.0 to see what I come up with. In the mean time, if you haven't already, turn off ALL extensions including minimal system stuff, with the exception of the Apple CD/DVD driver and Foreign File Access. Often times, the extensions and control panels under Minimal System can cause conflicts, particulary Open Transport. Just a thought - I'll send again after I get the results from trying to install RDS 5.0. mclarsen

It's me again. OK, this is the situation - RDS 5.0 and 5.02 are not compatible with OS 9. You have to install the 5.04 update for OS 9 compatiblility. Obviously this is a problem, if you can't install 5.0 first. So, drop back to OS 8.5.1, install RDS 5.0 and the 5.04 update then upgrade to OS 9. It should work then. RDS 5.5 will install under OS 9 but to avoid occasional crashes, update to 5.51 (the last update put out by MC). mclarsen

mclarsen, Thanks for taking the time to look into that for Omniousplay. Sounds like a real pain in the rear ;) Best Regards, Clint
