I was bored - and recently found a new scale technique. So I went and made a quick texture for the new Hydra. Could somebody try it for me? as I don't yet own the beast? Lyrra

And here is a close up of the mouth. Sorry I couldn't get rid of the reflection from the spotlight in the throat. Hope this helps you, I think the skin looks promising.

And a second one, ignore the body as it has head texture as well. Hope these help.

Thanks guys! I need to reduce the depth and size of the scales I think. The neck looks great though. No seem atall :) Going to work on the coloration - yuck brown really doesn't do it for me. Coralsnake? grin Marianne - you applied the texture as a bump, right? BTW whoever UVmapped this thing did a lovely job. it 'feels' like the same person as did the Mildragon

Lyrra, It hink you right on about the size of the scales smaller and with less depth and this texture will Rock in what ever color(s) it comes out in. I really like the contrast around the eyes and the nose to forehead scales. these add real character to the Beast :-) Looking forward to the completed texture(s)!!! Ron Cartier

Lyrra, yes, I used the texture as a bump map at 100%. I desaturated it first though. A coral hydra sounds interesting! Marianne

what's the original texture size (in pixels)? that should give me a good place to start with the new texture. This was left at whatever resolution the templates came in. and remember - at the moment I'm texturing 'blind' Bit of a challenge :)

RonGC ( ) posted Thu, 10 October 2002 at 5:43 PM

The hydra body texture 5000x5000, Head texture 2000x2000, eyes texture 800x800. They are big and memory intensive LOL Ron Cartier

The body texture in the original size doesn't render right on my computer. This is P4 on a Mac with plenty of memory. I tried reducing the size of the body map to 4000 x 4000 and then it rendered OK. According to some thread here other people also have had problems. Marianne
