Subject: Sneak peak at Anything Grows 2

ewinemiller ( ) posted Mon, 14 October 2002 at 12:01 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 6:44 PM

Hi folks,

Here's a little test file I did to show off the upcoming Anything Grows 2's multi sides strands. The mushrooms are AGro strands with a slightly modified Anything Glows Hemisphere for a tip object.

The multisided strands also create nicer highlights too, as in this picture.

When can we expect the coming out of AG2? And what will be the upgrade path? I can't wait!

ewinemiller ( ) posted Mon, 14 October 2002 at 2:23 PM

bluetone,

It will probably be at the end of the month. It's in beta now and currently there are only a handful of things left to clean up. If one of the beta testers comes back with a "OH MY GOD, THIS IS TERRIBLE!!" bug, it might change, but that is the current schedule.

As for upgrade path, there is no cost for existing Anything Grows customers.

YOU DA MAN! I have a project in the works that needs a bunch of trees, and I remember a preveiw you did a few months ago, that had a whole stand of trees on a mountainside. Is that something that will work in the new AG2?

Most likely, one of the outstanding bugs is a problem with the Face Camera function on strands with lots of segments. Assuming that doesn't turn into one of those "this will never work" kind of things, it should be there. Eric, I've wondered where on the tip object the strand attaches. Is it the geometric center or the hot point or what? Could it be the hot point, and then you could control where the object attaches? Anyway, the multi-sided strands look cool. I'm still trying to figure out all the ends and outs of AGr, there's a lot of potential there. Thanks a lot!

Patrick, It is the geometric center so if you want to adjust how it shows up on the end of the strand, you could always take your tip object into the VM and move the vertices up or down to change how it attaches to the strand.
