Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 02 11:49 pm)
I'm writing it. (just kidding)
I have done a couple of tuts that are posted in this forum though.
You don't really need a book (per se).
You can get all the information (and more) about Poser right here on Renderosity. (24/7)
Better than a book 'cuz a book can't speak back.

I would agree with whats mentioned above, the best poser 4 book is right here, you are reading it. This book has several advantages, Its written by many specialist and hobby artists able to answer almost any question, not just an author hired to fill 400 odd pages ASAP. Use the manual as your rough guide, then hit the forums for the harder questions. This books interactive too, it'll help guide you, make comments on your work post its own ever chaging gallery of inspirational pieces.
Yup. Ditto. But if you also want something you can carry into the reading room... I liked the "Poser 4 Pro Pack f/x & Design" book by Richard Schrand. It's not just for ProPack. (I don't have ProPack.) I found it pretty helpful. I also sprung for "The Poser 3 (& 4) Handbook(s)" by Shamms Mortier. There's some good info there, too, but, well, I kind of preferred R. Schrand's writing.
Hello again LonRanger...
what these guys suggest about resources available right here is super-true. Almost all of them are really helpful. If you are up to what I think you are you will find that "Propack FX&design really helpful for working with poser animations. Has projects and such and covers a good assortment of topics as well as delving into animation control which (I think) is a big part of what you're after. I am reading it right now (well, not this very minute) and am getting alot out of it. There are also 12 Poser animators here that have always helpful when I have questions. What number belongs to who is still a mystery to me though.
Personally I have not liked any of Shamm Mortiers books, but apparantly others do.
Good luck!
I guess I'm not alone in thinking the manual is absolute pants, then. About as much use as a chocolate teapot, in fact. :)

What is the best book on Poser 4? (I do not use pro pack).
