I have a friend (no jokes please) who is looking for a good flatbed scanner he has windows XP. Can anyone tell me, or point me in the right direction, so I can advise him on what to look for in a scanner? I guess DPI is important but what other specs make a good scanner? If he purchases a second hand scanner will he have problems with XP? Thanks for your help

I've been using 3rd party scanning software [http://www.hamrick.com/] which claims to be WinXP/2000 compatible, though I haven't mustered the courage to try this yet. There is a list of supported scanners on their web site. Some of the othere 3rd party apps may work also (Silversomething?).

I have XP & I have an Epsom Perfection 1250- haven't had any problems with it- works great with XP & am quite satisfied with the quality.
