hey...as soon the installation process gets over, i get a message sumthin like - "Error copying ereg: COPY_ERR_OPENINOUT"...then when i open the s/w from the start menu i get "You are outta memory! Please save your work and quit soon. You may also need to increase the amount of memory dedicated to Poser'!!!...i have a pentium 4 2.4GHz with a gig of RAM...where is the problem?...have already tried uninstallig and reinstalling it... any advise would be greatyl appreciated!

Try re-installing from a different CD drive (if you have 2 in your machine). May just be a problem reading the CD.

Check the free space on your hard drive, it may be telling you that it cannot open a file for writing on the hard drive because it's full. This is also about the only thing that will give you an out of error message when running programs on Windows XP as it will utilize the swap file when it runs out of physical RAM. Just a guess. Just a suggestion. I know it may be a pain in the butt, but temporarily turn off all "extraneous" programs that are running. This includes programs that show up in your toolbar at the bottom (especially at the botton right). There are some programs that kind of interfere with P5, including firewalls and other networking software. if you can turn of and/or close ALL APPS, try doing the install this way. - Ray

what os r u using? what version of poser? I had the same prob with the patch, but it ended up working in the end.... the only thing I did was to reboot and reinstall turn off zone alarm and your antivirus too....

Have you contacted Curious Labs support? This would be the first place I would go for this sort of help.

This sounds like it's having trouble editing the registry entries. this could definitely be because of virus protection. What virus/firewall softwares are you running. can you disable them? and definitely check with CL support

Don't worry.I've had Poser for nearly two years and I feel that I still can't use it!

It is obscene that Curious Labs put on the streets --for $349-- a product so defective. Two services paks in less than a month and still the elephant does not move. If we were talking here about a 32" TV set for sure I will sent back the piece of junk to the store, ask for a refund and never again will buy that brand. Hurt the heart and the mind when you see such inmoral corporate behavior.

montane, try reading the post carefully. He is talking about Poser 4, not Poser 5.

Poser 4? And it get's that on trying to open it for the first time after a clean install? Sounds like it's not copying a needed file from the CD... mayhaps a tiny scratch or blemish on the CD, maybe not - whard to say. There's a couple of quick fixes you can try: 1) Shut it down [or before opening it], and go through the PoserRuntimeGeometries folders, and delete any files in those with an .rsr extension. There shouldn't be any on a new install, but the "out of memory, please allocate more memory to poser" is a standard poser 4 error for "the obj is hosed/missing/whatever and I can't find my a* with both hands and explorer please help me!" ;] 2) Grab the Poser 4.02 or 4.03 patch from CuriousLabs, and install it. I prefer the 4.02 patch, my install seems to run smoother with Posef 4.02 [4.03 is more lockup prone], and 4.02 doesn't have any irksome "call the network" patching. 3) Final resort, can call CuriousLabs... it's possible you got a bad install CD. I'd try the other options first just to make sure it's not the install routine glitching.

If you look inside the poser folder on your hard drive, you'll see a Poser.rsr. It's distinctly possible that file has become corrupt and is giving you the out of memory error. It can happen during data transfer from the cd, or from the install routine itself if the data is interrupted during install. It's also possible that the default settings for the interface are corrupt. Or it could be something else. One other thing that might be causing it is XP. I understand there's a "compatibility" value that can be changed on certain executables. Find the Poser.exe file, right click on it and see if there's a compatibility option. If there is, try setting that to Windows 2000 and try loading the program again. I seem to recall one person got it to work by doing that. I can't verify this as I don't have XP, but it might be worth a try. Other than that and the other suggestions here, you might need to contact Curious Labs tech support.

Get the poser patch from curious labs, it should help. Had similar problems before and after I got it patched, poser 4 was smooth sailing from there.

First and foremost make sure you are running 4.02 or 4.03-- if you're not, you need the patch from Curious Labs. Also, understand that the "memory error" on Poser 4 seems to be whatever it says when almost anything goes wrong. I would uninstall and reinstall before the patch and see what happens. If memory alerts start happening when you try to render try the following. This is a memory fix. I've used it on all my puters and it works. It is copied from the CL site which is too hard to give you an url to with their frames. Poser 4 Poser can't render high resolution images. Error appears "Insufficient disk space to render" After some intense investigation we believe we have a work around. It turns out that Windows NT 4, 2000 and Windows XP must be using some space for the pagefile.sys file on the same partition that Poser is installed, to render large images. The pagefile.sys is the virtual memory or temp space for Windows. An approximate minimum would 10 MB. This amount might have to be increased for more complex scenes and animations. The maximum should be 10 MB or greater. To modify the Virtual Memory: Windows NT 4 = Right Click my computer. Click the performance tab. Click change. Click the drive Poser is installed on. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. Windows 2000 = Right click My computer. Select the Advanced tab. Click Performance option. Click Change. Select the drive Poser is installed on. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. Windows XP = Click Start. Right Click My Computer in the menu. Select Properties. Select the Advanced tab. Click Settings, next to Performance. Select the advanced tab. Click Change. Select the drive Poser is installed on. Click the Custom size button. Enter 10 in the Initial size field. Enter 10 or more in the maximum size field. Click set. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK. You may have to restart the System. In case you're loading from a CDRW... I've also found reading the threads here that it seems some CDRW Burners can corrupt files if you try to load a program from one. Good luck! Neurocyber

You are outta memory Sorry, but I can't resist: If you're getting this kind of message, something's wrong with your OS, not Poser. Every version of Windows/ Poser that I've used gives the message "You are out of memory". :-) Then again, you could be so low on memory that the OS itself is conserving memory: "You are outta memory" (20 characters) instead of "You are out of memory" (21 characters) When your OS goes "slang", it's time to upgrade. :-)
