Subject: Still Have a long way to go !!

Ok , I am now entering my 5 month of POSER. I think I have solved (with the help of the Forum) my huge file compression issue. Although I have 2 areas I would like help in. 1. Someone told me once to save the image in POSER as a PSD, well that works but in photoshop, It wont save as a JPEG ?? to download here. Also, when I save the JPEG (from a JPEG from POSER), theres a sliding scale (which reduces compression) it says medium, high, etc.. (i was always using 12), now i use 8..my question is this does it affect the quality a lot ?? 2. My images seem to become more blurry and lose a lot of detail when i upload them. (mabye this is related to Problem 1)..anyay..if yo see my pics they all seem...a little blurry..on my computer they are fine !! I am not a professional artist and mabye i need some softae but ?? Thanks for any and all help on these matters. ChaosArchangel

Yes, compression affects quality a bit. I always use .JPG high quality (10), it reduces the size with few noticeable losses

"One thing I can suggest- alway save in a non-jpeg format until you are ready to make the copy that is going to be uploaded, as once you get the JPEG artifact you can't remove them, and the JPEG loss of image quality add up every time you save it again in that format." That is what Jim Burton told me. It may not work for your problem but it is worth a try. I have PSP and I save at 20 which seems to work very well. Marge

Hi Archangel, Save your file normally from poser ( I think Poser defaults to tiff but thats okay) open said file in Photoshop now... in the file menu select "Save a copy"(not "Save" or "save as") Selcect jpeg from the dropdown menu and the set compression to 8 or so. now you have a jpeg for posting and the original is still intact for later editing. that way if you dont like the compression setting ,you can re do it from the original and you don't have to keep re-saving the jpeg again and again which will degrade the file more and more every time you save it. Hope this helps :)~ Hawkfyr

heya; 'shop is picky about file extras and file types. jpg's dont have layers, paths, or alpha channels. you have to get rid of all those before it will let you save as a jpg. tiffs will do alpha channels, but not layers. oh, and gifs will do alpha channels, but use it to set the transparency!! (watch out for that one, it is annoying!) :)

Yes You must "Flatten the image "(make all layers into one layer) to save as jpeg just clik the "flatten" checkbox in the save dialog box.

I always save everything as a tiff file because it loses NO quality whatsoever upon resaving and resaving and it is universal for PC and Mac. Once I am ready for posting I then save it as a jpeg so the file will not be so big, but I still keep the original tiff file for myself in case I wish to use it again at a future time. Unfortunatly this takes up almost as much room as Poser files, they're huge!! Every once in a while I have to unload my files onto CD's to get back my hard drive space. If you want to retain your quality image, tiff all the way, it's a standard. ~3D ;-)
