This is a task which should be possible in any 3d modelling program. At the top of the modelling forum are some links to free or cheap programs. Please bare with me since I am not a modeler by any stretch of the imagination. I just downloaded the Anim8or software, and dont even know where to begin with this simple little thing I want to do. All I want to do is to take a 2d shape and apply a simple extrusion to it. My question is....what format is it best to save this shape in to import it into Anim8or....and...how do I import it in? Any help would be greatly appreciated (Sorry...I know it is probably a stupid question)
I don't use Anim8or, so I don't know if you can import vector graphics from other applications.
But you can draw Splines in Anim8or and then extrude them. Both is described in chapter 3 of the online manual.
Another good program is the free Amapi 4.15. There is a even a whole Amapi Forum at Renderosity. ;)

Does anyone know of a freebie program that would simply extrude a 2d shape into a 3d object. Nothing fancy, just a simple straight extrusion. Any ideas? Rawnrr
