Are you having trouble rendering or printing? It may not be ther render but the printer I've never been able to print all the way to the edge of the paper on any printer yet. Brothers HPs get to within a half inch. The fancy Kodak Photo Printers have margins bigger than an inch. If you don't change the printer setup your printer will start in the top left corner and fill it's maximum print area. Anything left over will either be discarded or wind up on a next page depending on the printer driver. If you really want an 11 x 17 inch print you may need to use a tabloid printer and cut. If you want to print whatever will print on your own printer with 1/2" margins on each side the actual render might need to be 10 x 16.
Any printer has its own margins where it will not print. There are "oversize" printers, usually marked with A4+ or A3+, which can use a paper bigger than the format, to create a full-size print. Or they can be used to print proofs with crop marks and the other printing-press-needed stuff. I think I don't have to stress that they are expensive. :-)
