(omataseshimashita!)(Sorry for keep you waiting!)

Hi everyone....

I'm still working on the anime figures for Poser. The hi-res versions will be mailed soon to the five beta testers(speaking of wich, greetings to: Bill Redfern, Cleodhna Nightshade(thanks for your last mail), Mateo SanCarlos and every rosity member...).

This post is for clearing some things, there are been mails that compare this work with DAZ's work, an complaning about this taking too long(Remember that DAZ are a group, and mine is a single person work).

So, the new figures will have UV map for creatain real cartoonish style textures(forget about the materials), plus almost double resolution(I need to work a little more on that, I don't want to make a mistake and put unnecesary polys). Also this one it's gonna have a variety of morphs(requested by the beta testers(I'm working on the x-treme bending too))nails, toes and ears(finaly!).

Looks great. If you're going to use Poser's Cartoon display modes exclusively, I'd recommend that you model some real eyelashes for the figure, similar to the RealLashes by FishNose and OpticalSingenoid. The Cartoon modes can't use transmapped lashes.

These are exactly like the Ranma figures. The first one is "girl type" Ranma and the second is Nibiki. You've even said in other posts that your characters are based off of them. You might want to check with a lawyer and make sure that this is legal before you sell them.

Great Work! I realy love the Ramna 1/2 story soooooo much. :) :) :)

They look very nice - aparecen muy bonitas. You have done some very good work on them. Because you use original names, you created the original mesh, and you don't use names from Ranma 1/2, there should be no legal questions, since you are not duplicating or reselling any 2D work, and the original Ranma 1/2 characters are not 3D.

Great stuff & they don't look like any specific characters to me. Make sure not to make any inference to any either except in a generic way. Besides, the clothes more then anything define a vast majority of the characters. Most lawyers talk out of both sides of their mouth anyway so you don't know what to believe from them, I wouldn't give them a dime for their "advice" because you will find another one that will say the opposite. If you do find one that will give you "good" legal advice ask them if they will pay your fine if you are sued for infringment & lose.

This is the best Anime figure I've seen!!!

I think Crescent has a point though. The hair is what makes them look exactly like Ranma 1/2 characters, and I'd be awfully careful before trying to sell them the way they're pictured here. Without the hair, I doubt you'd have a problem though, and the figures do look very good. Nice work. :) SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.

Ascii, your anime figure looks great. Can't help but wonder what she looks like in Texture Shaded mode, perhaps you could supply a pic.

One thing I do notice is that the outer edges of the ear look a bit short on polys. Don't make the same mistake that was made in Posette and Victoria by neglecting this (IMO) very important aria.

I like the face very much, and the proportions of the body look just right, I cant see the hands very well in the above pic, but it looks to me like the palms might be a bit big.

Best of luck with this venture.

Les.

Thats what I was talking about...!!!! This are suposed to be the Ranma 1/2, characters so if I'm gonna sell this, I'll need to make a generic character(S**t!!!) Anyway, I will see what hapends... Thanks for the comments... Ascii (

Wow, this is looking amazing! I can't wait to see the high-res characters! My two cents: Crescent is, of course, right: these are Ranma 1/2 figures, as you intended. However, as the general shape of the characters is so universaly Anime, I think that if you were to create an entirely original character or two based off of these figures, perhaps citing the incredibly prolific Rumiko Takahashi as the creative inspiration behind the figures, you shouldn't have any problems. The main appeal to me in your work is the overall shape and proportions of the model: exquisitely Anime, almost archetypally so. Lesbentley: I've been playing with Akane and Poser's Sketch Renderer, with some occasionally very nice results (I'd post a few, but I don't tend to save them; I'm hoping to put something together with lights and all for folk to download). I think Little Dragon's point is well taken: eyelashes, even if there are just four broad wedge-shaped things, might be a godsend to the cartoon artist. Anyway, it's looking fantastic, and I am very much looking forward to seeing this complete-- however long it takes to perfect. :) So when are you going to model Happosai, hmn?

zechs ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 4:30 PM

Definately if you are going to sell it make it more generic then maybe offer morphs and hair to create the characters for free? A Generic anime/manga character is a lot more useful to me anyway. Ranma-chan looks very very good, as does Nabiki. Even better than your Akane IMO. How abot Genma or P-chan next :)
