Subject: 1-eyed, 1-horned, fanged purple message eater!

Is there some glitch in the fora? Several of my posts have been swallowed by some nefarious forum gremlin over the past few days (And twice just now.) What gives?

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 5:26 PM

Server troubles. The sessions are timing out prematurely.

jobcontrol ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 5:29 PM

Do you mean, you have posted a reply (or a new message) and were put to the Renderosity start page (that's what happens to me). When I go to the original forum and message which I replied to there is no reply. I always CTRL-C my messages now and simply retry. The second time the thing normally functions. Willy

jobcontrol ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 5:30 PM

Pardon, Jeff. I didn't see your answer. Willy

MadYuri ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 5:58 PM

At least one of my messages got eaten, it was a answer to the DoschDesign thread in the Poser forum. I saw it, it was in the thread yesterday, today it is gone. It was on-topic and non-moronic, but its gone nonetheless. :|

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:15 PM

Yuri, your thread was not moved. This is about sessions timing out.

MadYuri ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:29 PM

Nope, this was about a message in a still existing thread. Only this message disappered, yesterday it was there, today it was gone. I don't think that anybody did delete it on purpose, it was completely harmless. shrug

JeffH ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:39 PM

This forum software doesn't have a "remove" button.

MadYuri ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:41 PM

I didn't accuse anyone.

Jcleaver ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:42 PM

Strange, I voted in the Vue contest and saw my answer as one of the messages. Today it is gone. Something is going on.

Crescent ( ) posted Mon, 28 October 2002 at 6:42 PM

I've had that happen once or twice in the time I've been here. I know it posted, I saw it later that day, and it was gone the next day. Considering how many messages the servers have to keep track of, I'm shocked there's not a lot more threads written in "disappearing ink."

MadYuri ( ) posted Tue, 29 October 2002 at 8:54 AM

Damn, it's spreading. I had three messages in the 'Needed Highlighting!' thread in the Community Improvement Ideas Forum and now there are only two. Grrrr, something is eating parts of the forums. XP

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 29 October 2002 at 9:00 AM

It's not just the forums, uploads are disappearing as well.

What I think is happening is the site is reloading older bits of the database and losing the new.

That's not my area of knowledge, so don't quote me :-)

kbennett ( ) posted Tue, 29 October 2002 at 12:14 PM

That may explain the rather odd IM confirmation I got yesterday evening. I sent an IM oh, a couple of months ago now, which was recieved and replied to. Then last night I was informed that it had been delivered. Weird.

deemarie ( ) posted Tue, 29 October 2002 at 1:26 PM

Yeah, I have been having IM problems as well, several of my IM's are not getting through [coming or going]. How do I know? Cause people are sending me messages saying "Why have you not contacted me", or "Did you get my last IM, if not ....". This is a real hit and miss thing, the worst part is that I never know which ones have gone through, or that I haven't received. :( Also, the Forum Chat rooms are not working. Since they have been down for over a week and no one else has mentioned this problem, I can only assume I am one of the few people who uses this function, thus I know it is not on the high priority List, which is ok, just wanted to let "The Powers That Be" Know that they are not working :) Dee-Marie

It is still at it. I had to repost several comments in the galleries and forums due to this timimg out issue. Richard

It seems to be happening in forum search glitches also, FYI. I've run searches recently where I knew there were posts on that topic and gotten zero hits on the site search, but hits on the specific forum search. And then run the same search a few hours later and had it work properly. Other seaches have come up with posts that didn't exist in the threads the database said they did, or wierd results on searches. Ummm... considering it's almost the 31st, could the servers be haunted? ;]

Ok just a quickie fix until After Halloween ;] If your message does not post click "back" and repost! This works in most cases if you do it Right away. Of course be sure to check to make sure that it does not post twice. When sending IM's Make Sure that the message "Your IM has been sent" appears. If not try to go back and resend! This of course is just a helpful hint until things settle down a bit! Dee-Marie

Several of my older picture gallery images have gone 404.

deemarie ( ) posted Wed, 30 October 2002 at 4:39 PM

YOu can reload your images, just make sure you use the "Edit" function, that way none of your comments will be lost :)
