Subject: I'm modelling my dreamcar. Have a look at this WIP.

Just bought Amapi 5.15 This is my first model in this version. I'm still working on it. It needs headlights, doors etc. What do you think so far?

Does it come with A/C & leather? Cool lookin.

Looks cool!

In reality, many, many problems! As a DREAM car, not so many (grin). The two biggies are propulsion - Are you proposing a rocket drive or a turbine? and front end road clearance. BTW cool modelling.

That's some great modeling.. slick lookin car!

Looks cool, just a few nitpicks. Car needs 1. Rear view mirror 2. Lights 3. Doors, unless the glass part opens up. 4. Bumpers 5. License plate 6. Logo on wheels, not Firestone. 7. Steering wheel on the inside.

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 9:28 AM

I've got an updated version. I've already added lights and a rear wing for extra downforce. The car has already got a little bumper on the front in this version (the black 'scoop' or however you like to call it), but maybe a chrome tube-like one looks better. I'll add mirrors on the side and I'm working on doors. The interior might also come later. I hope I can add a licence plate that doesn't reduce the 'coolness' of the car. I don't understand what's wrong with firestone, but I do have another logo in mind. As for the propulsion: It's a turbine engine.

There were problems with Firestone tires in the US a few years ago. Like the propulsion.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Thu, 31 October 2002 at 10:37 PM

Problem is a turbine does not handle variable power output well. It runs well at one speed and does not handle sudden demands for acceleration or unloading at all well. This is of concern with a turbine driven gearbox design. If a jet propulsion then you can't reverse and aside from afterburner you really can't accel as well as a turbocharged gas engine. Also Jet A is a hell of a lot more expensive than hi octane! (and a lot less publically available). One other issue, your over the front wheel fenders will seriously obstruct your vision. The front tires will also interfer with the fenders when turning. If a turbine you can ditch the tailpipes! Still, it DOES look cool!

The tailpipes are a special feature: I didn't make air inlets for the engine to make the car more airodynamic. But ofcoarse you do need some oxygen for your engine. This oxygen is sucked in by these tailpipes. Another plus of this technique is that some of that air comes from under the car. When you suck the air under the car away, the pressure of the air under the car get's lower. This lower airpressure sucks the car to the road and creates extra downforce. And more downforce means more traction and better handling. I'll have a look at the fenders in combination with turning front-wheels. Maybe it'll be a skid-steering car.

Skid steering (grin)!

Imagine how weird it would be trying to use skid steering with 300MPh!
