Sweet! Glad you guys are up to this. Anyone else is welcome to jump on the bandwagon with us. OK, let's toss around a few ideas on what the project will be. Nature, space, architectual, abstract, landscape.....whatever sounds good. Glad you gusy are up for it. This will be a lot fun. hehe "The Bryce Collective".

This idea is very cool. I just got done with one over at indepth arts (http://www.critical-depth.com/cgi-bin/idd) It is a tile challenge. That means there is a theme, and everyone gets to make part of the whole image. Here's the catch: one person starts it, then the next people only get a 50 to 75 pixel wide sliver of the first tile to work off of. This way, you can tile the images so that they fit together, but you can never tell what it looks like till it's done. It's really fun.
Wow, this is really strange. A few days ago I was thinking about something just like this and I ran into the e-mail prob and thought about a web site with an ftp for upload and download capabilities for anyone wishing to try it. Let me check on it. I use Nomonthlyfees.com 500meg site, yet I'm not sure about the monthly bandwidth. Either way, I'm into it!
This is turning out better than I thought. How about we give it another day or so, see who else wants in and we'll come up with a theme in the mean time. ICM, way to go with the ftp site. Great idea! By the way, do they have free web hosting? I'm looking for someplace to set up shop. ANYWAY, let's toss around some ideas. I thought a) a toy chest in a kids room. Focus on the toy chest and what is in front of it with a bit of the room in the backround. b) an industrial scene (can't help it, I like em) and...well, enough from me. What say ya'll?

Toy chest is a good practice subject, easy for artist turnover time. We may need to iron out a few particulars, do we touch light and POV, that sort of thing. I'm sure questions like that will come up. Maybe some guidelines to keep the file intact. ;) As far as the hosting, It's not free at Nomonthlyfees, But There are a few like Geocities and I'm sure most can get used to accessing and manuvering the GUI and files. We can use as a virtual E-Drive.

Actually, I've done it with two other artists. (Hinchu and ShadowOne). Its quite fun. There's two ways of doing this. The site above is where the two images are. Scan down the right side and find the 2d Photoshop image that has the text under it. This is a marker for what I want to show you. 1. What I did with ShadowOne (Eric Weeber) was to transfer .br5 back and forth until finished. Look at the site and count to the 5th up from the bottom on the left side. Its the planet/sun with a ring just to the left of the photoshop 2d image that is identifed as a 2d image. You can see another collaborative work with Mr. Weeber at http://www.3dcommune.com/3d/galview.mv?Bryce+WsPHHOebg+1012256708 2. The other way to do it is for the artists to open Bryce and chat. This was a concept by Hinchu (Greg Tatum) who's explanation web site is down at the moment. One does something and describes in the chat what they did. The others do it. Then the next artist inline does something and describes what they did. etc. Go to my scifi site highlighted above, count two up on the right from the 2d PS image and that's it. Lotsa stars, some planets and a blob. Pros and cons of both. 1. The collaborative work... Pro: lets the artist really get into modifying and tweaking. Can fix or elaborate on the items that the other did. Con: Takes a while for the file to come back as people's schedules are often slow. Can disappoint when a material you made gets trashed, etc. Final result: Usually spectacular. 2. The 'tell me' method... Pro: You learn a lot of technique from the explanation and it forces you to be accurate in giving your explanation to others. Makes you think about what you're doing. Faster completion because the explanation can be done by email or chat. Con: Have to be online at the same time as everyone else. Final results: All images will vary wildly and tons of fun. Suggestion 1: we try both, but I think the Hinchu method will educate us the best as to each other's techniques and let us finish if someone drops out. Suggestion 2: we hook up on the Corel server to chat about this in their Brycetalk room. Not many people visit there, but the ones who do are master brycers. Everyone is very open to new visitors and taking over the server chat is A-OK. Instructions on how to get there either though web access or mIRC are at www.annsartgallery.com/links.html Cheers. It sounds good doing it realtime, but as stated due to peoples schedules, it can be difficult to coordinate. The idea of having an ftp server where we can "store" our progress seems like it would work out the best. I'm on the east coast and work from 8PM-4AM. That's usually when everyoen else is coming home from work and catching some z's. I guess we could sort of set up a list so we know who's turn, so to speak, it is. When person X has their turn, take a day or two to work on it, send it up to storage, notify us (the assimilated collective, hehe) that they are done and then the next person gets a stab at it. if it takes a week or two, then so be it. No need to rush on this at all. Besides, if we rush it, well, you know what happens when you rush. Anyway, let's hear some concepts everyone as to what you guys would like to do.

At this point in time I'am refurbing my web site which has been basically empty since the last time the host had a major upgrade. I had to erase everything to get it to work properly when they upgraded a few months ago. It all works fine now. I set up an email account that can handle up to 75 meg transfers which I will monitor and post incoming Bryce files. I'll post the incoming as links to the actual Bryce file for Artist X (when it's your turn) to download and if you want to send the rendered BMP file also, I can post the present results too. As soon as I put the remaining pages together I'll Post the E-mail address for those of you that are interested. We definatly need to make a list of People that are interested and set up a way to determine the order for turns. Any Ideas or thoughts ???? Please let me know If you want to check out the site so far, here is the address: www.icmgraphics.com
Does there need to be a limit on the number of people that can work on a single image? Is there such a thing as too many cooks spoil the broth in art? If we have a lot of interest do we want to split the group into a couple of smaller ones? Just asking as I've not participated in one of these before. Thanks. Cie
OK, here is the count, including myself, 13. I just copied and pasted the replies. This is by no means a order of who goes when. 1-BOOMER 2-Rayraz 3-Zhann 4-Trouble 5-johnpenn 6-Colette1 7-Darkginger 8-big_hoovie 9-madmax_br5 10-ICMgraphics 11-EricofSD 12-imanwillie 13-Peej Good call on the number of people Trouble. If this is good with all, we can keep it at thi or take on 1 or 2 more. Groups, hmm. Don't know. I just envisioned passing it on from one to the next. ICM, you, you're good. You get the booby prize. hehe The web site, email.....awesome, bro. OK, so it seems like we have sort of settled on the toy box and I am sure everyone already has a mental image going, so let's hear what you've got. Old one, new one, let's put them on the table. Oh yeah, if there isn't anyone that wants to partake in this "collective", jsut say so. No harm, no foul, no bad feelings, and no desert.

E-mail is up: bryce@icmgraphics.com OK, 2 Notes: 1. Subject matter, Lets decide here in this string. 2. If there are more wishing to join in, I had a thought of doing 2- possibly 3 and the fair way to make up teams is set a dead line to e-mail your name in, from there the teams will be as they come in. I'll post the teams. Let me know if this sounds OK

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of working on my dark industrial image and I had an idea. I don't know if this has ever been done here before, but it seems like a pretty cool idea. How about if we ALL worked on an image together? It doesn't have to be off the wall amazing (although with the talent around here, I believe it will be). We come up with a concept/theme for the image, one of us starts it and then we email the the files to the next person that wants to take a crack at it. We each do a little bit here and there and then pass it on again. The only problem I see is if some of us are using Bryce 5, like myself, and others are using Bryce 4. Like I said, just an idea that I had that seemed cool. If not, no sweat.
