Subject: Looking for a model

Anyone know where I can get a model of a milk crate? Or like an orange crate?

build your own

bonestructure ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 10:36 AM

well, I probably will try to build my own, but up until yesterday I didn't have the resources to build my own. Someone let me have their old copy of Bryce 3, which is frustrating the hell out of me cause half my objects and mats don't work right in it, but hey. Right now I'm working on a model I hope to post soon. After that I'll probably try to make the milk crate out of lattices. But my question is, can you group and export lattice models? I'm not going to rag on agamemnon. I understand hiw point. I don't agree with it completely, but I do understand his point

Building one is easy, all 4 sides are the same, and the bottom is only a little different. DVM00, not sure what your problem is, but I simply made the statement because it seemed that instead of asking for a model it would make more sense to make it, its a simple model really. And I'll let you know when a comment from complete stranger online really matters to me, because it doesn't.

Thanks a million Harrison. Actually, I made the milkcrate out of a lattice, saved it as an OBP and it did export, Only problem is it makes like a 1.5 meg file. Dunno why. High res I guess, but it's good for what I wanted it for.

Bonestructure you really have me confused. I realize you can save as obp. but EXPORT!!! To where did you export it? I sure would like to know..H2

bonestructure ( ) posted Thu, 06 April 2000 at 8:44 PM

I just exported it to another file folder. I was going to send it to someone till I saw how large a file it was

Oh now I understand.....I thought you meant exporting to use in another app...H2

Harrison, read my newest post above. I'm sure you can find things to do with this technique

Bonestructure, have you considered zipping it before sending it to the other person? I've found that .OBP files zip REAL well. Something to the point of a 250K file zipping to 22k. Not bad at all. That 1.5M file should end up being something in the neihbourhood of 200K, when it's all said and done. FYI, that was PKZip 2.50 for DOS using maximum compression. Also, did the model include a lot of booleans? I've noticed that tends to make the .obp real large real quick.

bonestructure ( ) posted Fri, 07 April 2000 at 4:30 PM

no, no booleans, all lattices. I have the latest edition of PKzip, the ad supported version, It doesn't seem to zip it down that far, to something like 800 K

Have you tried WinZip? Hawkfyr

they're about the same. I have PK and win RAR

When you compress it, both Win-Rar and PKzip for Windows default to the last compression type you used. When you first installed it, it defaulted to standard compression. You can adjust it to maximum and give that a shot (if you haven't already). I would think that it would compress more than 50% for a basic text file.

bonestructure ( ) posted Sat, 08 April 2000 at 8:17 PM

hmmm, didn't know you could adjust the compression, I'll have to look at that. I never paid much attention to the program. Just zip stuff up and unzip it. Thanks
