Subject: Two questions for the november challenge

YL ( ) posted Sat, 02 November 2002 at 11:07 AM ยท edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 9:44 AM

I hope the answers are not already in the description : 1/ are we allowed to add some solid clouds (by import object) 2/ it seems we are allowed to render a landscape or something else. Here is my remark (not really a question). In that case, this is the whole picture which will be judged, and not only the atmosphere. A picture could be beautiful by the subject, and the atmosphere could be bad, but the votes will go to this picture since the landscape is beautiful. I mean the picture will be judged not only for the atmosphere but for the whole scene. This is just a comment, finally. Nice subject, anyway ;=) Yves

Yves, ONLY the atmosphere will be judged, not what you put in the landscape. You do not need to create a landscape, but you can if you feel so. The important is that we can see the sky:-). If you add solid clouds or bitmaps, they cannot be a part of the atmosphere as they are to consider as objects. This means we cannot put it in a atmosphere collection. :-)Guitta

I understand, but I know that we can be influenced by external objects (other than atmospheres) ;=) Yves

YL does have a point. It may not be a bad idea to have no ground/objects what so ever. Even ones that have been done already can easily be re-rendered without anything else in it. :)

OK, if you wish so, I will then get in contact with the creators:-)

In thinking, I do not agree with you. An atmosphere is nothing and can hardly been judged without an object in the mage, only guide to show from where comes the sun i.e... Why do you think Vue's Atmosphere previews have a terrain included? Also I have changed the rules with a sample image. Hope this is OK:-) Guitta

For me it's OK ;=) Yves

Good idea with the simple terrain. :)

For me everything is clear, but as you know, I created a few atmospheres with bitmap material for clouds. They are in freestuff too. I would like to know, if someone creates that type of atmosphere, it will be against the rules, or not? Because it IS atmosphere (can be saved as .atm file) theres only unusual material used. I think, it would be good to say exactly "use just procedural materials - functions for clouds or so...
Just my 2 cents...

Yes, I think I have to change the rules again, because not everybody seems to understand. I got submissions with bitmaps added to the atmosphere and such things, I have to refuse. These are not atmospheres. I said clearly that NO OBJECT or Bitmap should be used, except a terrain in its default color (to see where light and shadows are) and that the horizon must be partially visible. This is another problem. I got a submission where the terrain is mapped and too hight to see the horizon. If you are a nice guy, you can write a correct English text for me and send it by e-mail to gebe@renderosity.com:-) I will then introduce it in the rules. :-)thanks Guitta
