Subject: The secret to getting into the Hot 20

Mosca ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 3:11 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:44 PM

Monnths of statistical study show that your chances of getting an image voted into the Hot 20 increase dramatically if you frame the image title between lots of these ~~~~ and/or these **** (i.e., ~~Deep Thoughts~~). But not these %%%% or these &&&& or these $$$$.

Lapis ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 3:44 AM

How about these: GREAT[place title here]GREAT WOW[place title here]WOW COOL[place title here]COOL RFG[place title here]RFG please note that RFG stands for really f***ing good

Farside ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 3:59 AM

How about $10 to vote for my picture?

bikermouse ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 4:05 AM

Mosca, Interesting observation. You have researched this haven't you? I also noticed that the POV seems to be important - what I would call an "Unrealistically Tall Photograher View" - from fifty or more feet above ground or more rather than the five or six feet above ground a person would normally view from for landscapes, and (sometimes) awkward viewpoints from say 3-4 feet above ground for closeups seem to be popular for some reason. - TJ

So what happens if everyone adopts this titling convention?

Well I title my images w/brackets but thats habit from chatting on mIRC

EricofSD ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 7:26 AM

My research shows that aside from the ~~~~ and *****, the image must have one of the following items; vickie sword temple moon fog nudity

Mosca ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 8:58 AM

No no no--you don't get it AT ALL, EricofSD. Those are superficial elements (and you'd have to combine at least four of the six to get in, AND you forgot to say anything about armor, helmets, tribal tattoos, elfin features, and/or poutiness). What you really need are moody skies, a blank yet meaningful stare into the middle distance, a pose with just the right touch of stiffness around the hands; painted hair (p4), or a reflecting ball (P5), gaussian turned up to at least 5 to get that "glowy" look, and most important of all, the right title. Here are some guaranteed winners, free of charge: ~~Deep Thoughts~~ ~~Strong Emotions~~ ~Nameless Feelings~ ~Somber Meditations~

You forgot one, Mosca: ~~Romantic Drivel~~ --lb

Mosca ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 10:47 AM

Formulaic "art" is fascinating--it's like the old Steve Goodman/David Allen Coe "perfect country and western song." You had to have trucks, trains, prison, mama, gettin' drunk, and rain.

Hisminky ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 10:57 AM

I was drunk, the day my mom got outta prison, and I went to pick her up in the raaaaain. But before I could get to the station in my pickuuuup truck, she got runned over by a danged ol' train... Of course, I prefer "The Rodeo Song"

Not wanting to bash anybodies Egos! but, i see the Hot20 as the "Award Shows"... If you require that award to feel good about yourself or your art, then your in trouble! Art should be Fun! And Art is a very selfish thing! If you like what you did, then that's all the reward needed! And if others like your vision, then it's great too! We now return you to your regular programing..... Actually it's not just the sword/temple content, you also have to give the whole thing a soupy airbrushed look as well.

bikermouse ( ) posted Wed, 06 November 2002 at 2:17 AM

No, it's a real song - I met the guy who wrote it, unfortunately. (It was after he wrote the song in case you're wondering.)
