Subject: Show me...

spinner ( ) posted Fri, 18 October 2002 at 4:22 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:27 AM

Hi, I'd like to challenge you all to the following: Imagine if your favourite artist, be it sculptor, painter, photographer or chainsaw art-artist, and imagine what this person would do if he or she had Poser, Photoshop and/or Bryce. Anyone up to showing we're capable of more than pretty nudes ? If martin Murphy could do the stuff he did with Bryce 2, imagine what we can do :-DD ~S (who's made a crappy image w. vicki, Cambert has made a michaelangelo, jmahoney did david, and Hiram showed us how to DO it with his vallejo stuff :-)

Hiram ( ) posted Fri, 18 October 2002 at 7:51 PM

Hey! What's THAT supposed to mean?

Here's a couple I did a while back: Picasso on the left, Degas on the right. Poser & Photoshop.

Do Tex Avery and Chuck Jones count as artists?

of course they are artists. I'm trying my hand at Frank Miller myself :-) (And vermeer, but that's going to be a longer project... ) ~S

Hiram ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 10:03 AM

Wow, Cinema1954! Instantly recognizable. Those are right on the money. Beautiful. I'm after the Dutch Masters myself. Maybe a Rembrandt or a Vermeer.

Hiram ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 10:19 AM

Then I saw spinner's mention of Vermeer. Oh well, Rembrant it is. Or maybe Breugels, he was Dutch wasn't he? Or Flemish? OH!!!! I just got an evil idea, you guys are gonna hate me! Be back in a few hours...

spinner ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 10:29 AM

my mom used to take me to see the Dutch masters, and some of the Flemish ones too... and I"ll allow for Rubens, but smirk bare-ly ;-) Can't wait to see your idea, Hiram.... Mr Bosch meets Dali, perhaps ? ~S

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 5:48 PM

Hiram, I've known evil, and you aren't it. Tex Avery meets H.R. Giger ... now that would be an evil idea.

Hiram ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 6:29 PM

You know my first wife???? She made Satan cry once.

spinner ( ) posted Sat, 19 October 2002 at 6:50 PM

Now THAT would be an image I'd love to see... tex Avery meets Giger. Show me, Dragon. Also, forgive my poor manners, Cinema; Your images ROCK :-) ~S

jmahoney ( ) posted Sun, 20 October 2002 at 4:40 AM

This is great! I now have a concept for Remmington (the artist, not the firearm ;-). Or maybe Remmington with a firearm ;-). He still does count as an artist doesn't he? I have to ask that since in the US, to most people Dutch Masters is a cigar ;-)

spinner ( ) posted Sun, 20 October 2002 at 5:13 AM

Amazing stuff, Cinema :-) And it figures that you damned yankees (sorry, J ;-) ) would call something as ephemeral as cigars Dutch Masters.... Sheesh ! ~S

jmahoney ( ) posted Sun, 20 October 2002 at 5:19 AM

Well, you got me there! What the Duch Masters have to do with cigars is as close as what Dali has to do with deorderant ;-). But then that's maketing for you!

RimRunner ( ) posted Sun, 20 October 2002 at 10:44 AM

I was sitting here trying to think of something to do... and it hit me... The Mona Lisa, with really big hooters. Since it is "if they had Poser, Bryce or whatever". I hit with Poser in my head first... then, well, with the large number of Watermelon pics... it just hit me. I couldn't stop laughing. While I haven't done the image, I figured I would share that momentary visual I had. :) Interesting Challenge Spinner. I saw the thread in the Tavern as well some of the images so far are outstanding!! Cant wait to see more. (and I hope that everyone keeps serious about it.. and not get humorous ideas like me. ;)

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2002 at 4:35 PM

Well, I was thinking... and honestly, I think if Frank Frazetta or Dave Sim or Mark Schultz (three of my favourite artists) were to have Poser, they just wouldn't use it, and I'd simply have to post works they have actually done, which I don't have copyright on, so I can't.

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 21 October 2002 at 4:40 PM

This is by no means a *new* picture -- I did it quite some time ago... but at the time I was thinking 'what would Olivia DeBerardinis (AKA just 'Olivia') do if she had had a copy of Poser back in her Vargas-duplicate days... so perhaps it counts as an entry.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 22 October 2002 at 2:45 AM

Show me, Dragon.

Actually, Mel Brooks already beat me to it with the singing chestburster in Spaceballs: The Movie. More of a Chuck Jones thing, really (he invented Michigan J. Frog), but Jones was a disciple of Avery.

St. Paul the Hermit

This image took its inspiration from the painting of the same name by Jusepe Ribera (1591-1652). Rendered in Max, posed in Poser...

I've only just seen this thread, although I admit I got the idea from Hiram's "If Boris had Poser". So I present... "If Boris had Bryce..." ;) There's a bigger version in my gallery. :)

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 4:33 AM

Now, this looks like Boris' work. I didn't think Hiram;s really did (sorry Hiram -- it was more Frazetta-ish), but this one really does have that effect. Maybe it's the purple and green in the skin tones. And the shininess. So, Tuttle, you did an excellent job of reproducing Boris' style. Sorry to say, that does mean I'm not terribly fond of it as a picture (I despise Boris' own work), but I do admire the skill that went into duplicating the style! Impressive!

*"sorry Hiram -- it was more Frazetta-ish"* I beg to disagree. If you had read my response to your serious albeit vitriolic critique of a ***joke***, you would have seen that your points re: Vallejo's work are quite wide of the mark and seem to be merely an opportunity to pontificate and express your favoritism of Frazetta over Vallejo of all things. I can't say I favor one over the other. On the other hand, you appear to have a fairly high opinion of yourself.

Hiram ( ) posted Mon, 04 November 2002 at 5:13 PM

Oh, tuttle, brilliant work by the way!

tuttle ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 4:28 AM

Thanks 2 _dodger & Hiram for the comments :)

_dodger ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 6:56 AM

No worries, Tuttle! Hiram, your flame here was out of place. Your 'examples' on your image's comments fail to negate my observations on Vallejo's work. Please do not tick off the 'allow user comments' box if you don't want or cannot handle constructive criticism. And yes, I am self-confident. Thanks.

Hiram ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 9:08 AM

Well that speaks volumes and I'll let it go at that. Others may decide for themselves.

_dodger ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 11:45 AM

I'm sorry, but I must ask again for you to please stop attempting to pick a fight with me. If you do not cease and desist, I will be forced to report this to Renderosity Admin. Personal attacks are totally out of place and in violation of the behavioural guidelines for Renderosity.

RimRunner ( ) posted Tue, 05 November 2002 at 10:18 PM

Boys boys... I'm gonna tell Boris & Frank on you both of ya. :See how either of you fair once you've been covered in oils. Now... count out 10 paces each, and come out Rendering. :)
