THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Renderosity Search = Broken

I looked for a "contact us" or email us link on renderosity and could not find any. Nobody in the chat at this time could find any either.. I was searching for a bookshelf under the Bryce catagory, and the results gives me maybe 20 results, of which 3 are actually for the Bryce catagory, the rest says Poser.. Does anybody know why it does this? It makes it sorta useless as a search function...

The "contact us" is on every page to the right under the Renderosity category

After spending a week writing a web database search routine, I will never again criticise any search facility, no matter how bad it may seem! ;))))

I searched for "bookshelf" and got nothing, lol. I tried going under different program catagories and doing an example search for "ship". The search will give you results in all catagories no matter what catagory you are searching from. Don't know why this is, maybe because if you are looking for a "bookshelf" for Bryce but there are none for specifically Bryce, but there is a bookshelf mesh in .3ds format you will still be able to have a usable mesh. Did I make any sense, lol?

I'm pretty sure it used to stay in the category you were searching before the upgrade to the servers. Perhaps something has changed.

Yeah I think it just searches in all categories unless you pick something specific from the top menu, like in poser it has morphs, millenium stuff etc.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

I'm not sure what we are discussing here. Are you searching for objects in Free Stuff? If so, why are having a problem with finding more objects than you can use? Also, if you have Poser, just load those objects into Poser, export them as Wavefront objects, then load them into Bryce. Have I misunderstood the whole problem? I excel at doing that. :^)

By the way, If you try breaking keywords down into smaller parts, you have a better chance of getting the objects you want. For example, a search for "bookshelf" will get you the "Sorry no files match your search" but a search for "shelf" will get several hits, some are Bryce .obp, some are 3ds (which you can use), and Poser (which as I said above, you can use if you have Poser. Good luck getting the things you need!

heh, I searched for Book, and came back with tons of results :) Mostly Poser.... I have recently formatted my computer, so I will have to install Poser in order to export those books and bookshelves that are in poser.... btw, does the obj export, export the textures as well? Or do I need a seperate program, etc?

tjohn ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 4:54 PM

Yes the textures will export, but Bryce will expect to find the textures in the same folder as the object, if not it will ask you to browse for the textures by name, so it's better to plan ahead and put your object and textures in the same folder before you try to import them into Bryce, then everything will load automatically. Also, you will probably have to tweak the textures a little in Bryce because a lot of the settings will be at 100% If you've got Poser 5 it has its own procedural textures, and I don't know if you can import them at all.

Forgot to say, exporting from Poser seems to work best as Wavefront objects when they are going to be imported into Bryce. And I check all the boxes except the bottom one when exporting (this is where you make choices like "keep internal names".

Thanks for the info, I'll start doing that tonight. I only have Poser 4, couldn't afford to get 5, a few months after I got 4, and 4 serves all of my needs and more.. to me, 5 just looks like another Bryce 4 to 5 update..... not much but a service pack with lots of bugs :) But thats just my opinion and they are most likely wrong (with the Poser part) shrugs.
