Subject: is it safe to use sr2 beta3?

i'm really tired of all those $&%& c-exceptions, is it safe to use the newest beta release? i mean does it fix more then it destroys? i saw this odd scaling bug introduced with beta2 so i'm wondering if it's the same case with the newest release? also, if i install it, can i go back to poser5 sr1 without having to install all from the scratch? reading through the beta forum i got goosebumps seeing what is yet to be fixed... :::frustrated::: thanks!

beta3 fixed the scaling bug, haven't come across any major bugs yet with it but I bet there are some in there somewhere.

Like the lottery and the EPA estimates for your car, Your Mileage May Vary.... Back-up or make a copy of P5 before you apply the beta so you can revert to the previous level if it doesn't work out for you. pixelslave

the scaling bug is fixed and the smoothing bug ,too. raytrayced shadows cant be adjusted( transmapped work fine) had only 2 C exceptions since i use p5 ( 6 weeks), not with p5 out of the box and with any of the patches,so i cant say

smoothing bug? you mean power-of-two-textures-bug? ;)

thgeisel ( ) posted Mon, 11 November 2002 at 2:34 PM

no, there were some props that looked like ballons when rendered(depending on how they were modelled) Unchecking the "smooth option" only for the prop didnt help, only in the renderoption for the whole scene helped. But now it works. But there were few props.

Well , in my case I didn't have the c-exception problem until I used sr2 beta 3 .

Lapis ( ) posted Mon, 11 November 2002 at 6:16 PM

Its really a hard question to answer because some of the bugs can be due to other apps on your system or your system components and configuration. Components vary from work station to work station so there is no real "control" in this grand experiment. As the varying posts indicate, everyones's experience is unique to to the many variables. In other words...roll the dice.

I agree that the scaling problem was fixed, so I am looking forward to starting to use P5. it may just be psychological, but the renders do look better in P5.

I was relatively happy with my Poser 5 (plus SR1 and SR2 beta1 1 and 2).But After intalling the last beta 3 ,last friday, i got lots frozen screen and xception error during the last 3 days, especially during rendering with Firefly

just be sure to wear protection. ;?

Here's a question. Do you think they will ever unbeta it? I finally broke down and bought some 5 hair-- so I guess I'm going to try it eventually. But the freezing in Poser 4 is almost killing me, I don't know what my reactions to c exception would be-- I'm not up to multiple reinstalls. I mean it, panic disorder can do you in. I do not want to have a breakdown over a piece of software. So, think they will ever unbeta it? Or is it always gonna be a crap shoot? Understand. I attract puter probs like a magnet does iron filings. Emily shouldn't have bought the hair, should I? But the renders looked great.

aleks ( ) posted Tue, 12 November 2002 at 2:28 PM

ah, but such is life: you are always in beta and, at last, when you think you can handle the world - peng! ;) but as long as cl makes the hair to have sharp bends instead of flowing in curves (where everything in poser is round and one has to do real hard work to make it edgy!) i ain't gonna touch it. so, ehrmm... no. :)

At least we know the answer to whether bets 3 is safe. No, Enter beta 4. Emily
