Subject: Question about P5 Rendering before buying...

I had trouble in P4 some time ago with rendering animations. The problem was that as the shadow calculations were made on a frame by frame basis, the shadows seemed to jump around somewhat irratically. I ended up having to render in another program to avoid this very annoying problem. Does the new render engine and raytracing feature correct this problem? I hope the question's clear, as I've read little about this problem in the past on this forum... thanks!

I've witnessed the flickery shadow problem in P4 also. The solution is to increase the size of the shadow maps.

Raytraced shadows are nice and sharp. Possibly too sharp, but that's a common problem with raytracing in almost any render engine.

Another problem with lights appearing to flicker or move in animations is if you have edited them during the course of the animation. If so, you probably left the keyframes in the timeline, and the light's position an attributes will change in an unpredictable way during the course of the animation. To get rid of this, either always edit the lights at frame 1 and delete any other keyframes that appear, or uncheck the "animating" box in the light's properties dialogue. Bill
