Lately they've been airing a lot of "made for sci-fi channel" shows. And these things are aweful! Giving them a B rating is being kind. The effects are usually horrible. But sometimes they are OK. But the stories and plots are terrible. I've got a semi-complete story worked out. And what I feel is an interesting monster (no stupid fake tentacles or humanoid with an extra eye or two) and a story that makes sense and is relevant with current events. But it's still a just a monster movie at best. Many people think they are silly. But it's certainly no worse than the crap they're producing now. And suspect my idea will be much scarier than anything they've made if it's done correctly. ScottA

I was really not impressed by their treatment of Dune.... And give me the Gozilla brand o' monster movie any day. Not sure why I like them so much, though. It may be that, since they were originally in Japanese, I can't tell whether they're badly acted or not. Hmm. How does your monster movie capture the Zeitgeist?

It involves DNA manipulation and mutation. With a smidgen of repercussions of economic cutbacks. The elements of the story are not exactly brand new. But the way the creature evolves. What it starts out as. What it mutates into. And where it stomps around are something rather unique. And potentially much scarier than the typical movies I've seen so far. Part of the draw is that the creature is likeable by the general public because it will be dinosaur like in apperance. And everyone likes dinosaurs. But it starts out as a common animal we all know and see all the time and will only be about twice the size of a human. Until the end. *I'd like it to become a Godzilla sized creature at the end. But I'm having a hard time deciding how to do that in a semi-believable way (maybe the second generation would become bigger). To put it simply: Imagine a dinosaur type creature small enough to hide in city alleys. With special powers that make it more interesting. Running around the city. Hiding in the shadows and ambushing innocent city dwellers. And the first thing you see is glowing eyes behind it's victims before each attack. With lots of time spent on the actual metamorphosis of the creature's evolution. And a good scientist and lab set up. They alway seem to skip right over that stuff. Not exactly new stuff. But the way I'd do it would be much better and scarier than what we've gotten so far from these movie people. Lets face it. These movies don't even scare children. But mine would definately be scary. The "Jaws" of Monster movies if you will. ScottA

Steven Spielberg is producing a drama series for the Sci-Fi Channel called "Taken," about alien abductions over the course of several generations in one family. It premieres the first week of December and it's good. Check your local listings...

Yeah, love those old b-movies! I see by your image that Frunobulax is about to pounce upon the unsuspecting Dork from it's dark-alley lair... ...hey, I've had an idea how to convincingly increase the size of your monster towards the end on the film. The National Guard get called in, naturally to destroy the beast. They hit it with everything they have, but... you've got it... the depleated uranium shells just make Frunobulax grow larger and more powerful until he can stamp on those Army Jeeps. Then "our hero", if there is one, has to destroy the beast single-handed. LOL! H:)

I'm eagerly awiting to see "TAKEN". That one looks like it will be pretty good. But hey....Look who's doing it. :-) hogwarden, The problem I have with mutating this creature into a huge size is that it will have already gone through an incredible amount of mutation as it is. And people will tend to think....Geez. How much bad luck can one creature go through. That's why I thought about maybe a second generation getting bigger. Besides. Godzilla size creatures aren't realyy scary. Just fun to watch. My idea is to make a really scary movie using a good looking monster moving in and out of the shadows and pouncing on people. ScottA

When someone mentions "Garbage" and "Sci-Fi" in the same breath, I usually think they're talking about that wonderful gem of a science fiction show, Quark... you remember, back in the 80's, about the garbage scow and its freaky crew? Like Gene/Jean, a guy with MPS who would switch from male to female every time he popped throgh one of their little hatch tubes?

Don't forget Ficus, the clueless humanoid plant modeled after a certain science officer. When asked by crewmates in new outfits, "How do we look?" he launches into an anatomical lesson on the eyeball.

Heres the idea for a monster - one that instead of flesh and blood is non-corporial entity that spead like a mental virus onto eth mund of each person and once it latched on the victim spends all thier time thinking aboutit, workin one it, spending money on it, thinking abot working on it. Its POSER the MOVIE!!!! Muahahahaha! Sorry... Time to take my medication

I have a problem with the sci-fi channel back when it was first created it was sci-fi 24/7 now it more horror then sci-fi. why doesn't USA network just make a horror channel?

Anyone watching Sabretooth? Suppose to have a lot of 3D rendered scenes. It will probably tank though :)

Quark was out about the same time as Galactica... and NO DEFAMING THE SACRED GALACTICA! That show was awesome to a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's. ^_^

I doubt it. There are too many egos envolved. Richard Hatch(a.k.a. Apollo) has been trying very hard for several years to get it back on again. But he's got an ego bigger than the lawyers. Most likely the closest thing we'll see is a rip off of the Galactica idea sometime down the road. Kids today seem to prefer flashy, over the top, neon, strobe lighted, phoney looking mutated creatures with no personality, move so fast it makes your head spin plots. A true saga with a good plot and good script probably won't hold their attention. It's all about how much crap you can cram into one scene these days. Quality isn't important. ScottA

Good example Rattler. I just saw another Sci-fi piece of garbage tonight called "Proteus". Man this stuff is bad. And it just keeps coming. Who's paying to produce this stuff? I suppose this shows my age. But I miss the old cell drawn cartoons too. The new stuff (especially the anime stuff) feels like being punched in the face with glow sticks. ScottA
