I think pidjy said yes to imports. Usually, "fantasy" equals something midevil, dragons, lord of the rings, etc. But, it's all in the interpretaion.

I'm sure "Land Of Fantasy" means something different for us all..

In my 'umble opinion, "Fantasy" would allude to anything that is not "real" at this point in time. From unicorns, dragons and fairies frolicking in Brycean forests, to voluptuous Vickies exploring ancient catacombs armed with nothing but a sword and a g-string, to human beings roaming over an alien landscape (and perhaps wrapping towels about their heads to avoid the gaze of the dreaded Bugblatter Beast of Traal). "Land of Fantasy" is a pretty open-ended subject.
The best advice I can give is to check out the November Challenge entries that have already been posted here so far. I haven't seen anything yet that I would disqualify. Looking at these should show you how diverse "Land of Fantasy" can be. Make the scene YOU think of when you think about "Land of Fantasy". Have fun!
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

fantasy = mediaeval european, hmm..., could I enter my entire gallery here? (medium-evil grin...)
Sorry, roobol, if it's been in your gallery a while, it's considered bad form to enter in a challenge. It should be a brand new work of art. We're looking for new art made for the challenge, not old art that fits the category. That way, all of us are lined up at the starting line together when the pistol is fired.

I know, tjohn, I know. I was just kidding, don't worry. I don't take challenges, one reason being that it takes me 3-6 months to complete an image. The one that I'm working on now was started late August. With a little bit of luck it will be completed mid-December, otherwise early January. And I'll just put it in my gallery; you won't see it here, promise.
Hey Roobol, nice to see masters like you spending time with us mere mortals in the Forum! ;-) I was wondering if the topic can be paraphrased as "Realm of Fantasy"? Land of Fantasy, generally translates to an exterior long shot with a lot of terrain/Landscape etc thrown in. What then happens to Dungeons? Magician's lair? Or even a shot of a book of magic, not to mention comics coming alive (a la Landing on planet X)? Also it means concentrating more on a setting rather then an incident, and its incidents, which bring out the drama! I feel that would legitimise all variations and provide for more latitude...umm back rubs still remain free of course!
As I see it, "Land of Fantasy" includes dungeons, troll's lair, Toontown (a la Roger Rabbit), "when the oceans sunk Atlantis...", Arakis palaces or spice procession plants, Egyptian sorcerers conferring through a candle flame, the interior of the Prancing Pony, the interior of a spaceship in a galaxy far far away, whatever... Land is not only the open spaces. though what I have in mind is an open space. Kinda. Sorta. If I have time. :-)

I think sci-fi includes advanced technology and deals with the future of humankind, where everything that happens or is portrayed is explicable by defined rules. Fantasy generally has no technology to speak of and events occur or are portrayed that necessarily cannot be explained. Sci-fi writing, in order to qualify for the genre, must be based on current scientific theories (which is why sci-fi writers know their stuff) so I suppose it's the same with artwork. So spaceships, in general, are sci-fi. Star Wars? Well, precious little scientific knowledge went into that, but it was based on the - or rather, a - future of humankind so I guess it's sci-fi. I've also got another word for it but I'll keep it to myself ;)
Then how do you define "Dragonriders of Pern"? :) It's a book about colonists that colonize a planet that is attacked every 250 years by an organism which eats all organic carbon. Yet it has dragons in it that breath fire and can teleport just by picturing where they want to go. It's sort of a blend of both fantasy and sci-fi.
Before this escalates into a full definition war, I'll just note that millions of man-hours have been spent on the Usenet and elsewhere trying to define a border between science fiction and fantasy. It simply cannot be done. :-) As to the SW, they are fantasy: Force, ships that run on handwavium and so on. :-)

Since pidgy said: "which image would represent best, for you, a Land of Fantasy" That pretty much leaves it up to you to decide what's what.

ummm, I'm not an officiato of Pern but loved the books. Thread falls for about 50 yrs then stops till I guess another 250 yrs passes. Not sure of the exact time between threadfalls, but it seems you are both right but about slightly different things here. Anyhow, I never made much of a difference between sci-fi and fantasy. I love reading what I call "Sci-fi Fantasy" books. One category in my opinion. Sorta like you can have a Romance-Comedy movie or a Murder-Mystery book. Ok my 2 cents is in.

Can it be a alien land of fantasy? Or does it have to have a human element? Ive been working ont this one for a week, there be no humans ever here!
