Subject: Content paradise up and running....

saxon ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:26 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 7:10 PM

So what do we all think then?

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:28 AM

Wow...that's kind of big news. And now I have to wait 9 hours to test run it. For those of us who will have to wait till we get back to our home computers, what do you think of it?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:36 AM

So how do you get there? I don't have Poser 5 and was jsut wondering what was there. Not that I will ever have internet on the computer that my poser is on .. Still never found out if that was the only way to get there.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:40 AM

I don't know if you can get to it without Poser 5...it is one of the "rooms" offered as part of the package:

Content Paradise
Poser 5s Content Room hosts Content Paradise, your portal to the vast virtual world of Poser add-on content. Content Paradise lets you easily search, purchase, and download third-party content from the Web without ever leaving Poser! A simple and intuitive user interface makes the process efficient and easy. And Poser 5s Download Manager can automatically detect and install many types of content!

http://www.curiouslabs.com/article/articleview/237/1/48/?nf=1

Of course it hasn't been accessible before so what it actually has in it is unknown to me.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:45 AM

Yeah .. It says it "lets you" but it doesn't say that is the only way. Just wondering and all since I have a cruddy connection and a seperate computer for my internet and my work stuff.

thgeisel ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:47 AM

was there about 5 minutes ago ,and till now it seems to be a copy of the mp here.Till now nothing more. Maybe it changes in future.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:47 AM

My bet is (but I'm guessing) is all the content is available on Renderosity and other sites offering products, and that this only is supposed to make it "easier" to find Poser 5 compatible stuff. But they would have to be vendors with agreements with Curious Labs. I don't think you'd be missing out on much, in other words. But I could very well be wrong. I have hours before I can check it out for myself.

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:00 PM

Cool... looks neat... err... we have a new search engine for the Renderosity Marketplace... Yeah, big news.

Too late. Too many sales lately and I ain't going shopping again for months! LOL

tonymouse ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:32 PM

Correct me if I am wrong but I thougt that there were also going to be some "free" downloads like the p5 animals that were never included. ect. additinally I hope that there are other ways to access anything like that as I have no internet access on my "graphics machine" and download at work(cable connection) Perhaps a CL'r will see this and offer some info.

dialyn ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:36 PM

I am hoping they aren't done with Content Paradise, but simply wanted to have something to roll out since so many people had been asking about it.

Niles ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:39 PM

Nothing New for P5. I was looking for new P5 animals, and the clothing items that we have texture maps for, but no models. I was not too thrilled. :( But it is a nice place to "search" for stuff thats found here and there. The Good news... CL is working with Turbo Squid lol, maybe they can get them (TB) to Slash prices...errr... by 85%. Niles

pendarian ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 12:54 PM

Well, I'm sorry..but I think the money could have been better spent in research and development for Poser 5. I don't want/need a search engine in my software that I do artwork with. If I want to shop here I will point my browser here, same with any other store that has product that I'm interested in. I don't understand why this was done really, other then to earn CL more money at the expense of the stores(they pay for setup and also pay a commission to CL from what I understand). I plan on not using it at all. Waste of the store's money if you ask me...and I'm not at all pleased that CL wishes to line their pockets that way. Pendarian

Attached Link: http://www.contentparadise.org

Just click on the link. You don't have to have P5 to view and look around the content. I assume you have to be registered to order anything. It is nice and clean and easy to surf your way around. I suppose for non-P5 users we can at least surf the content (the grouping is a little better than here) and if you find something you like - just come back to RMP and buy it :)

CyberStretch ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:25 PM

While looking through the Privacy Policy, something did strike me as being "odd":

"Direct Marketing: As a matter of policy, we do not sell or rent any personally identifiable information about you to any third party. However, you agree that we may ourselves use your information to contact you and deliver information to you that, in some cases, is targeted to your interests and relevant to your use of the site. By accepting the User Agreement and Privacy Policy, you expressly agree to receive this information."

"In all cases, you must give users an opportunity to remove themselves from your database and a chance to review what information you have collected about them. In addition, under no circumstances, except as defined in this Section, can you disclose personally identifiable information about another user to any third party without our consent and the consent of such other user after adequate disclosure. Content Paradise and our users do not tolerate spam. Therefore, without limiting the foregoing, you are not licensed to add a Content Paradise user, even a user who has purchased an item from you, to your mail list (email or physical mail) without their express consent after adequate disclosure.

I would hope that this applies to CL/CP as well.

I equally detest "junk mail" and "spam" alike. I think an Opt-In/Opt-Out system should be available for users to request not to receive unsolicited commercial mail (e-mail, snail mail, or otherwise) from any source; be it CL/CP, their partners, the merchants, other third-parties, etc.

It just seems to me that it is setting a precedence of "double-standards". Perhaps I am just too picky. ;0)

Kendra ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:34 PM

It doesn't look like there's much rhyme or reason to the order of products yet. I'm hoping they fix the thumbnail issue. So far I'm only seeing R'osity products there but I'm looking forward to seeing what else might be out there. And the New Items Available on the front page seems to rotate items.

jkm ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:40 PM

Just checked it out. Odd that there seems to only be a single thumbnail and a single large image for each product. I much find that the multiple images available at places like DAZ are helpful in determining if I should buy a model or not. Having only a single image to judge a product by is very limiting. At this point, it is unlikely that I'll buy much through Content Paradise.

jkm ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:42 PM

There is also no wishlist. That is one of the features I like best about the Renderosity Marketplace.

xoconostle ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:50 PM

Do those of you with P5 receive discounts? Is there any indication that you will, or that you'll get the allegedly promised P5 animals or other free content? In other words, what incentive is there, really to use this feature? Although I fully intend to upgrade to P5 eventually, CP is not a selling point that works for me. I've never felt the desire to shop from withing an application. It's nice to give it a rest and shop independently of time spent with the app. My innately suspicious nature wants to know that privacy will be FULLY respected, and that there is no "spyware" associated with CP.

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 2:55 PM

There's no way to get back where you were either...you end up going back home and starting over...unless I missed something. Just another catalog, although I think it will be useful especially for new Poser users that are not familiar with Renderosity, BBay, etc....Turbosquid???? every time I go there I'm floored by the prices...higher than high. it is easier to find specific items for specific modelas as well. Not sure about the login..if that's for Rendrosity of if you have to sign up for an account with Content Paradise

Th e Animals promised aren't there yet. And poser 5 is NOT a webrowser. It I use COntent paradise It will be through expored. Why shoudl I have to use the content paradise room that does not even have a backpage oe open new window button??? Its in the bright and shiny but useless categlory

aleks ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:26 PM

as jkm said, it's pretty useless with only one small thumbnail to judge the model. but nosfiratu (or was it kupa?) said in an interview at rdna that cp is for beginners. like take the money from suckers and run?

depakotez ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:31 PM

WOOHOO, absolutely nothing to look at in P5. Were any of us really expecting them to put the new "free" add on content there that was mentioned forever ago? Hah.. Or in the words of those more famous snicker Still, interesting that they don't let you go back and force it in the directories of their choosing. Unless prices on products in there are at least 50% off here and elsewhere, guess where my business goes/stays. If anyone actually orders anything on that 'thing' let us know if it will let you redownload your stuff too. Tom

depakotez ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:32 PM

Minor correction, you can always right click and choose "back". But oh come on, it's a freeking window that launches IE. I'm glad it took them years to figure this one out. Aren't we all?

Dave-So ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:33 PM

as far as seeing the content of the thumbnail..if you click on the thumbnail..a larger image appears that shows what is offered in much greater detail.

jkm ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:35 PM

Click on the thumbnail to get a larger image. That larger image is not always a larger version of the thumbnail. The back button on my IE menu bar didn't work as I expected it would (to go back to the previous page I was on) while going through the Content Paradise catalog. Kind of frustrating.

aleks ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:40 PM

one larger image. i prefer 3 from rosity or several from rdna or daz. but it's a minor nuisance - it just brings nothing new. it's even faster to choose a bookmark in the browser to reach any marketplace then to dig through cp.

TygerCub ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:50 PM

Give these guys some more time. They just finished with the latest and greatest SR pack, and probably put this up to give us a preview of what's to come. Yeah, waiting's a hassle, but... Things are sure to get better.

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 3:58 PM

TygerCub > Things are sure to get better.

Do you mean that they don't screw us this time?
I remember the last time they said that they wouldn't screw us... and then it really hurt.

CyberStretch ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 4:08 PM

"Give these guys some more time." Since it was slated to open in August, and it is now mid-November, how much time should we give them? Are we going to have to wait til CP5 SR-2 Beta 4 to get a usable content catalog? (Just a little tongue-in-cheek attempt to lighten the mood.) ;0)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 4:27 PM

It looks like the first promo image will have to be planned more carefully in the future, for whatever you would like to sell HERE. At least with my two items for sale, Trash Street and The Saloon, the Content Paradise shows the first of the 3 images I've uploaded here. Sure it's nice to have your stuff at CP, but.... ONE PIC?? Come on guys! The GREAT thing about my stuff is all the extra props [sorry for the ad] and they're not on the first picture. That is...not at the moment. I'm going to change that in the future for sure. Btw...That makes me wonder.... if you update your picture here on R'osity, will it be updated in CP as well? And what if you have a sale? Will the price be cut in CP as well? lotsa questions...and I haven't even gor P5 yet...

OK, so where is the "original" content, meaning stuff that we can't find elsewhere. I notice that they're not doing sales, the "Bad Girl Vicky" poses are $9.50 at CP but $7.60 on sale here, they also have the "exclusive" R showing, which is fairly ironic... later jb

Lapis ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 4:47 PM

To me the concept of Content Paradise is a little like going to a home and garden show. You have to pay to get in, only to be advertised to once your there.

timoteo1 ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 4:50 PM

No need to apologize ernyoka1, I was waiting to hear a perspective from one of the merchants here. I don't blame you ... I'm sure a lot of merhcants wish they could show MORE than THREE pics ... ONE is ludicrous. I'm relatively confident CL will change this once they get around to fully developing CP. Best of luck! -Tim

"It looks like the first promo image will have to be planned more carefully in the future, " I noticed that too. I like to show all textures through the 3 images and one isn't enough. Just have to consider a new way of doing things I guess. I'm also curious how fast sale prices, etc. will make it to CP.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 12:28 AM

I think the funniest thing is that there is about 150mb of Poser 5 RuntimeDNA stuff on Curiouslabs url, that doesn't show up in CP. More Bloat for applications. Yet another disapointment. I have Yahoo, I have other search engines. For some odd reason I thought CP was going to be geared toward Poser 5 and Poser 5 stuff, yet, there just isnt much. Yet again puttin my money in support of a company only to have them change directions. Poser 6? hahaha, have to a damn good offer cause I ain't feelin the love yet on Poser 5. Blah! CP, BLAH!

JohnRender ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 8:46 AM

They's partnering with TurboSquid? I would distance myself as far as I could from them! Why? In case no one has noticed, there is a TON of copyrighted material FOR SALE on that site- Star Trek ships, Star Wars models, Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, South Park, and more. If the copyright holders ever hear about this, they will serve TurboSquid with cease & desist orders and lawsuits and everything else they can throw at them. And who knows what may happen to the TS' "partner" sites who help move traffic to them and encourage people to buy the copyrighted stuff from TS.

Tomsde ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 11:09 AM

I must confess I'm a little disappointed, I was expecting something like Daz's free model of the week. If CL doesn't come across with the promised "new animals" advertised, they should at least removed that from their adds. I don't think that's quite fair. If they wanted to offer a few free animals they could always post if on their web site as part of the "missing CD content" section.

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 4:01 PM

"I must confess I'm a little disappointed, I was expecting something like DAZ's free model of the week." Not sure why you expected that, the Content paradise is described as "Content Paradise lets you easily search, purchase, and download third-party content from the Web." Obviously a feature to make discovery some of the 3rd-party Poser content on the web easier for relative poser newbies. Exactly what they've delivered. "If CL doesn't come across with the promised "new animals" advertised, they should at least removed that from their adds." What ads? The The only official description of new Characters in P5 I've ever seen (and I've searched very very carefully) is the same as the one right on the CL website Poser 5 feature page. "New In-product Content Poser 5 includes new male, female and children figures. All are highly accurate 3D human figures featuring fully articulated hands and feet, photo-realistic texture maps and facial morphs. Poser 5 also includes a diverse collection of new clothes and props." No reference to Animals there at all - The description is pretty much exactly what P5 already has. In response to a direct question from Little_Dragon, On 8/5/02, in the Thread called "It has to be Tuesday somewhere in the world!" by Kupa; "Updated versions of the animals, as well as few new ones, will all be available as a free download through Content Paradise right inside Poser 5." No mention of a time frame, no ads, just a promise they haven't had time to make good, yet. Now that Content Paradise is up, I have no doubt it will evolve to include links to the various Poser updates and downloads as they're added at the CL site. ... Don't mean to seem like I'm picking on your post, Tom, - I just clipped these questions because they reflect expectations I've seen expressed several times, but never found any source for. Cheers! Jerry B

I stand corrected. I could have sworn the early adds stated that there were new animal and human figures, but I could be wrong. If I am however, I wonder why other people were looking for them too. Perhaps we just assumed that there would be a few with the new relase. I guess Daz has me spoiled, and I was expecting Content Paradise to be something like it. Truth be known the only thing that CL really owes any of us is to fix the bugs, which they are doing. I just wish they would have delayed P5's release until more of these issues where resolved.
