So the starters get what a week and they are setting up the base for the rest of us - any special rules - dos and donts

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 10:56 PM

One Week sounds fair. As far as rules, I would keep them minimal. *Add your Object *if you believe you have a better texture for someone elses object, I would imagine it's OK as long as it's still looks like the original only improved. Use your best judgment and be fair. *Lighting... Judgment call again. Improve or move These are not meant to be etched in stone, Mostly just use your best judgment and remember "Do unto Others" then Run. Lets just keep it fair and get through this first run, I'm sure there will be plenty of input and brainstorming going on. ALL in ALL..........HAVE FUN!

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Wed, 13 November 2002 at 11:14 PM

Whoa....Guess I got carried away pasting SevenOfElevens name in the artists list. Sorry bout that. Please drop us a post or email and pick a spot. PC or MAC, if PC I guesss youre second up. Thanks ICM

BOOMER ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 4:07 AM

SWEET!!! Glad we got it going. Whether the scene is made to look new or old, bright or dim, just go with it. The "rules" seem pretty good, but like ICM stated, best judgement. If you want to use a model you found or make one, use an existing texture from the image or add another, do it. I am sure the image will go through a lot of changes through it's stages, but that's the FUN of it. Thanks again to ICMgraphics for getting us organized and for creating the email and web page.

Because I like to blow $%&# up.

big_hoovie ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 7:00 AM

wow, top of the list...I guess I should be honored, but I'm not sure where to start....I guess with the toy box, huh? just one thing before I get started: does it matter what the toy box looks like(ie, theme of the thing) or should I not worry about the box itself? prolly too many questions at this point, but life's been hectic recently, and my brain hurts. thanks

big_hoovie ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 7:03 AM

one more thing: should any objects that we create be created in bryce, or is using a modelling program OK?

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 7:24 AM

Anything goes at this point.

Trouble ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 10:50 AM

I think however you design the toybox will kind of determine what type of pic we start with. IMHO We have liftoff Houston! :D

lsstrout ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 12:12 PM

As a non-contributer, I wonder if you would post WIPs occasionally. Or if you'd rather keep the rest of us in the dark until it's finished, I understand. Lin

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 12:33 PM

Posting each progressive pic will be no prob. :)

big_hoovie ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 2:10 PM

there is one problem with email-I have a 1.5MB attachment limit to my emails(downfall of web based email) I have some server space at my school, and can put it on there if need be, or I can send it via instant message to you, ICM, unless you have another idea that will work better.

Roch222 ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 5:02 PM

dont you agree it would be more challenging (yes limited) to only use Bryce having only the starter using another to get the basis & maybe the "finisher" can use other programs to tweak the thing? ????? and oh, thanks ICMgraphics for alll yur initiative (the web page and e-mail is great) roch222

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 5:17 PM

Just to keep you all up to speed, I IM'd big_hoov and asked which Instant message program he used. I'll install it in order to resolve his e-mail transfer limit situation. If anyone else has the same restrictions on email let me know.

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 5:22 PM

roch222: I'm sure it's pure bryce with the exception of import objects. as far as any other tweaking it wouldn't make sense to do any post work prior to the finished product. If I missed your point please elaborate. Thanx ICM

Roch222 ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 7:08 PM

above you said "anything goes" when big Hoovie asked can any modeling program be used - is the point on top of my head or am i missing something:)

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 8:04 PM

Hope I can import models, I don't want to be making models in Bryce.

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Thu, 14 November 2002 at 8:07 PM

Ahh, Yup your right. Personally I don't mind imports, it would definatly make for a quicker turnover time which each artist handles the file. On another note if we start off with less rulings it'll intice more people to get involved. As these continue we can iron out the particulars. If you'd prefer not to use them that's ok too. The point is to enjoy doing it and the end result. Jeez Do I sound like a politician or what? LOL

big_hoovie ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 5:35 AM

does anyone want to see a semi-finished toy box, to start getting ideas, or should I just keep it to myself, so it's a suprise when it gets to the next person?

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 5:46 AM

Go ahead, post it. It's just a WIP right?

big_hoovie ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 5:53 AM

file_31434.jpg

yeah, it needs some wheels, and it should be about done. I am using only bryce to create it as I don't have enough skill with MAX yet to be able to create much more than the standard prims in it. I call it my scrap-wood circus toybox. it's based on a real toybox that my father made for me when I was a child(which, incedentally, I have given to my daughter). I am going to keep the circular peices the way they are, cause I like the way it looks. I am working on the wheels now. what do you all think?

big_hoovie ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 5:55 AM

BTW, there is some distortion on the bars, because when I took the picture, I had to be a little offset, to make room for the lamp on my floor(for lighting, so I wouldn't get flash reflection)

ICMgraphics ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 5:57 AM

Wow, that looks great

big_hoovie ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 12:01 PM

thanks, I should have it finished soon

madmax_br5 ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 3:04 PM

When modeling objects in bryce, I would like to ask everyone to take the time and rename the objects so that they are easily identifiable. You should include the name of the object, followed by the part of the object. For example, on the toy box, one might be: "Toybox_bar1." This way, we can tell where everything is and make it easier to change materials and so on. Color coding would also be nice but I think naming makes it easier for the next person.

big_hoovie ( ) posted Fri, 15 November 2002 at 4:30 PM

well, as I created it, I named parts as I got to them. I think I've named almost everything on the toybox, but I didn't set any families. the next person in line can do that, if needed, i guess, as I am done with my part.

ocddoug ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 3:42 AM

Ooops, sorry. Bryce4/5, Windows. But, I think I will opt out if no one minds. I just did a few collaborations over the 3D Commune and I'm heavily into my own stuff at the moment. Thanks. Doug
