That is sweet... How about sharing the wealth on some of the tips you've gotten. :) Is that an original character or one from an existing anime? The eyes remind me of Mylene from macross 7... The character design in general has a very familiar feel, but I just can't put my finger on who she reminds me of. :)
Thanks for writing. At the moment, I can't really write an effective tutorial on this technique because I'm still not getting consistant results. Once I can, and when I talk to the artist who originally helped me with it, I will explain how. Tashar, the link to Nite Grafix isn't working just as you said, but I found another link to it that does work. (http://members.aol.com/nitegrafx1/frames.html) Unfortunately, the hair items appear to be gone. I think that Fishnose will be able to help me with the hair though, so thanks for your help. I will send you an IM later about the lights. :) Zechs, I didn't base that character on anyone, must be coincidence. ;) The outfit is from Cyo-Bit Lobo and is based on the character Ayane from the video game Dead or Alive. I put the highlight on a generic eye texture to create the eyes. Sorry that I'm not able to give you a tutorial at the moment, but if you haven't been to Cyo-Bit Lobo lately, they've got a new outfit for free download. Play with that until I get this figured out. ;) http://www.jet.ne.jp/~m-jacky/ Thanks, take care. SnowS

Hey, Snowsultan, that's one of the best anime in Poser I've ever seen! As for hair, I don't know if you remember Greylight? I think they had some hair, even in 3ds format but not sure if it's old fashioned. You could always use the grouping tool to put together a hairstle the way you like.Lyrra, it doesn't come out of Poser looking exactly like that, but pretty close. :) Two renders have to be made and then combined in Photoshop, but it takes only a minute to do. Preparing proper lighting and coloring in Poser is the hard part. Tygercub, it's a custom anime model by a Japanese artist, but it can only wear P4 clothing. Thanks for the link Jon, it's been a while since I've been to Greylight. Fishnose sent me 8 megs worth of old-fashioned hair (thank you!), but I'll stop by there later to see what they've got. SnowS

Heh, if you're going to bookmark a thread, can't you at least type something like "bookmarking" or "Nice work" or "ME WANT FREE STUFF GIMME GIMME"? ;) You can find the model at Play With Poser. http://homepage2.nifty.com/zokeimaster/ Ascii, have you made any more progress on the anime models you showed us a while back? They looked excellent, and this technique might work very well with them too. Thanks. SnowS

Snow, I don't know if I should hate you or admire you for your work. I mean - I have spent over 5 months playing with doing comic type art from poser and you pop out with something like this :) lol Very good work - though it would be nice if you at least gave us some hints on what you do with the lighting, and what you do in photoshop. Then I can start playing some more around the areas you are. Are you using the Poser Sketch function for the lines? I found that was okay as long as you really mucked around a lot with the sketch editor - though I have never really got that working just as I want it... This is a link to my latest attempt - I'm doing most of my comic stuff in photoshop right now while working on the story I'm writing. Warning, this is a naked body :) But I find skin tones are the hardest to deal with right now, since that is the "main" attention of the reader. I'm almost thinking it would be easier to make a more realistic type comic then trying to make a "comic coloured" comic :) http://www.homepages.paradise.net.nz/traceyan/paint%20test%2010.jpg The problem with the above is it is taking almost 1 hour to 2 hours for me to create that affect, and secondly it still looks too much like a 3d model instead of a 2d painting, or anime type picture. So please - share - please please please please :) WiNC
I am going to try to contact the aritst who originally helped me with this technique again tonight, but please understand that I cannot write a tutorial or explain how I did this until I check with him. I do not know if he has any plans to use this in his own tutorials or commercial items, and I do not want to cause him any trouble. When he says it's OK, I will write a tutorial. Don't worry WiNC, I didn't just pop this out. ;) I've been trying to get an anime or cartoon style out of Poser since the first version, and it wasn't until just recently that I made any progress at all. Your image is very nice too, but it does look a little more on the 3D side like you said. It has a unique look though, so don't totally abandon it; sometimes it takes playing with strange combinations like that to discover something brand new. Thanks for your understanding. As soon as it's possible, I will post new images and ultimately a tutorial. Take care. SnowS

Snow - yeah my picture has a unique look - I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do a comic page using this style - since I continue to fall under this method. So I suppose this weekend I will plan out a page spread and start rendering. My hardest isn't getting the characters together - it is what you can see in the background :) lol So I have to work on some of that. It is nice to see that you haven't just started working on this Snow :) Would be really disheartening then :) WiNC
Hi there... (to Snow Sultan) In fact I'm gonna release a Lo-Res anime base model in the free stuff, this one will be UV mapped and will include a variety of simple textures, the only thing I need is webhosting space....(drop a messange if yo want ot have it sooner, this could take a while)... (By the way, I started doing anime using Vicky, but is a little dificult so I ended up creating a new mesh, an issue I frecuently foud is that the higher the res of the mesh is mos dificult to work with anime morphs...(or maybe it's me...) Regards... Ascii (~_~)
Omoshiroi na~... to omotta kara, bookmark shitan da kedo. shigoto-chu de, comment-o suru jikan ga nakatta. gomen ne. Sugoi Ne~! to iu kanji. Toku ni, kage to iro ga totemo anime-teki da to omou. Kao mo pacchiri.. Dono hodo, kore ga Poser de dekita mono to dono hodo Photoshop no sei da to motto manabitai. Yoroshiku, Raian There ya go Snow... ^_^
Well using vicky or posette or whatever VS making a new mesh really depends on what kind of anime/manga character you are making. Many of the Japanese Poser users have created great characters based on realistic meshes. These tend to resemble (to my eyes) characters by Mangaka like Ryoichi Ikegami,(Mai the psychic Girl, Crying Freeman) or Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) But if you are looking for an extremely stylized design like the styles of: Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2) or Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, DBZ)then you really need a new model unless you are a morph god. :)
Zech - correct... The big issue with Ranama and DBZ is that really you need less definiation in the model where as normal poser models have after too much definiation to be of much use. There isn't a way I know of (bar probably going into Rhino or 3dmax) to delete some of the sections of the models and then linking it all back together. I believe it is possible, though not possible so use in a morph, since morphs just move points - not delete them.
Ravan said something like : "interesting...I think,I bookmarked, but 'cuz I'm working didn't have time to make comments, sorry. By the way,I think the shape and the colors look a lot like anime, the face is(actually I still don't know what pacchiri is...) The somethig about Poser, and something about wanting to learn more about Photoshop... Sorry for my bad English(as well sorry for my bad Japanese), both of them I'm still studying... Ascii (~_~)
hey, not bad... :) "I bookmarked it because I thought it was interesting but ...." 'Pacchiri' is probably slang I picked up in Sapporo, meaning exactly or right on, so "the face is exactly right too..." "...I'd love to learn more about what extent this is a Poser work, and how much is the result of Photoshop." Thanks :) That sounds a little dubious of SnowSultan's work in translation. I'm not skeptical, I really do want to know.
