Subject: color

I used the horse model in Poser4. In materials, changed the horse to white yet it always renders tan. How can I get it to pure white? Is it the lighting?

Could very well be. Have you tried changing the light colour?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 09 April 2000 at 4:19 PM

I believe the default poser texture for the horse is a tan .. Have you turned off the material?

picnic ( ) posted Sun, 09 April 2000 at 4:25 PM

Rita, I think what Ghost is saying is that you have to go through the pieces/parts of the figure and make the 'base' color white in each case for the new texture to cover it without being affected by the 'base' color. Hope that makes sense--if not, I'll do a printscreen for you. Diane B

I did change the lighting to white. Also made each piece/part white. Is that what you mean? Still renders tan.

Just tried it Rita. Also change your 'preview' to white in your material lab and it will then render white. If you don't change the preview, you still get tan. Diane B

Rechecked everything Diane. Hide, mane, inner ears and preview are all white. All the lights are white. Before rendering all of the horse is white but still renders tan. Don't know if I should change highlight and ambient color.

I don't know Rita. I didn't change anything except the color--didn't change the highlight OR ambient colors. That's a bit of a mystery, but I can't check anything. My computer is down (on/off switch broken can you believe, or at least that's the diagnosis and I'm waiting for a part) and I don't have access to Poser on mine. If you want the horse stark white, then that's what I'd do. If you just want a pretty white horse but with some highlights, then there is a nice white horse texture called Fjording white-probably on Freestuff (and a really pretty gray that you could 'doctor' with highlight and ambient). Also--I'm assuming down where you say what texture is to be used that you have 'none' selected. I still had a tan horse until I changed the preview to white and then the horse was white so I was pretty sure that would do it. It sounds as though there is still a texture applied somehow. Down at the bottom where you select how the preview will be shown--click on the far right one ('shaded' preview). If THAT shows tan, then there's a texture applied. Check to make sure .bmp isn't on, etc. Diane B

I wonder - did you have Texture Affects Entire Figure marked once, then unmarked when you removed the default texture? You might have to go through every area of the horse and remove the textures one area at a time to make it white!

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 1:21 PM

CharlieBrown--that's an excellent idea. I bet the horse came in with 'texture all'. Don't know if it will work but its a really good guess.

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 1:31 PM

I've been hosed both ways by the Texture All thing, so it's the first thing I look for when there's a problem now! :-)

Rita ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 1:37 PM

It was unmarked. Now if I understand, it should be marked. I would then change all the colors. Well I did that and it's still tan.

Rita ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 1:43 PM

Removed the textures and now have a flat ugly white horse. Think it looked better tan. LOL

Rita ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 1:50 PM

Changed the lighting and it's a bit softer. Thanks all. I think I'll play with it now. Learned a lot with this baby.

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 10 April 2000 at 2:52 PM

That's what I was afraid of LOL--that you didn't really want a 'flat white horse' G. That Fjord white might be just what you want--I'm not sure of Free Stuff or Fun Stuff on PFO (I've had it awhile). Its a 'shaded' white horse. I might even have it backed up on a regular CD and could attach it for you from this computer if you don't find it and/or even are interested in it. Glad you worked it out--I always find every problem I have is a learning experience LOL. Diane B

Isn't the Fjord horse from PoserWorld or one of those sites? I remember seeing a pack of horse textures somewhere. Maybe Strike-A-Pose textures?

I'll give it a look -see. Thanks
