I really hate to see that people abuse free resources and I hope you can prevent any further violations. You will get all the support you need from this community.

Do it like Rambo, keep a stiff upper lip and show them that you are undeterred. ;)

Well, that bites. But I understand why you're having to do it. Shame someone has to abuse your generosity.

Shame someone has to abuse your generosity Welcome to the modern world. If it can be abused, it will be. A great shame, yes, but so very typical lately.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 7:09 AM

It's very gracious of you to make a way for us to still get them :) I haven't been downloading every week as I only download when I feel I can use it soon. I've missed out a few times when people shut their sites down entirely due to abuse. So I'm glad they're still going to be there somehow :)

Sharen what a sad thing to happen! Someone who gives so freely getting abused by people really p_ _ _es me off! I'm glad it didn't discourage so bad that you removed everything, and like AprilYSH said I am glad you are offering a way for people to still get them. Thanks for all you do, Sallie

I've sent you a private e-mail with a potential solution to your problem.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 8:52 AM

Hi Sharen I have a little problem. Your policy of having to credit you even if I bought the models from you is one I usually associate with freebies. In the past, if I bought it no credit was necessary. This is important to me in my commerical work. Some clients do not like any other artist name credited unless both artists are on the contract. They want to make sure the is a clear copyright on what they are buying. Fortantly I haven't used any of yor work. The freebies requirement I understand, purchased Items are something else. "Terms of Use - You bought it, or downloaded it from our Free section, it is yours to USE commercially or personally in any animation or image gallery, we ask that you give SAM'S 3D credit for the construction of the models, including all texture maps, any morphs or derivative of our models, same goes for all models in the freebies section."

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 8:53 AM

Hi Sharen Your policy on purchased items is proably not a problem for others, I just mentioned it because it will affect some people, and since it is not a general policy everyplace maybe you ought to highlight it in some way...just a suggestion. I only noticed it because of your "Special Notice" on freebies.

Cookienose ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 8:55 AM

I just wanted to say thank you for your freebies, they are always such nice items and of the highest quality. It's so sad someone abuses such kindness.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 9:14 AM

Sorry to hear about your problems, it seems no good deed goes unpunished. Thanks for all you have done for the community. I'm looking forward to seeing your "...models blown apart, so to speak." ;o) Congratulations!

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 9:23 AM

Thank you all for understanding and duanemoody I have not yet gotten my email, I think our server is having a problem today (what else is new), but hopefully we still can get these out to whomever wants them. Thanks again for understanding and all is not lost, we will still create a new one still everyweek. Sharen PS: you are all so great to us, we thank you

chohole ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 11:22 AM

Sharen, at the moment I cannot even get to your link to see what you have to say, but obviously you have been hit by those unmentionable bads out there. Hang 'em thats what I say. I hate it when they hit my friends, st I hate it when they hit anyone, but specially when it is friends. And You and Mike are friends to everyone in the poser community. Hang the B****ds, hang draw and quarter them, pull them apart between two raging stallions, oh god I am running out of things, someone help me out here!!!!!!!

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 11:35 AM

chohole, it is alright, what is sad is that it will hurt the community more than Mike or I. But our server shut us down twice last week due to it and we just can't let it go on. Hopefully we will find a solution, but until then we will do this. Someone suggested we get a password for each individual, but I know what that is like, have a million different passwords to go all over, so I really didn't want to do that. But it isn't out of the question yet. Thanks all for your support. Sharen

steveshanks ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 1:59 PM

Sharen remove the free files to a hidden/different folder too coz some how they remeber where they where and still link to them, we have to delete or move every freebie every week, or the bandwidth goes sky high......Steve

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 2:50 PM

I will do that Steve, thank you. Sharen

PoisenedLily ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 2:55 PM

Im sorry someones stealing your bandwith, but the fact that you will go to such great lengths to get people your freebies is a testament to how great a merchant/person you reall are. :) Cimerone

creativechaos ( ) posted Sun, 17 November 2002 at 2:57 PM

Sharen - I'm really sorry to hear about this. You've been a great source of inspiration and freebies to help beef up my scene and I'll neverforget the generosity you showed me early on in my Poser career. I do hope you can get everything resolved quickly and as painlessly as possible. It thouroughly pisses me off that people have no consideration for others hard work and money. Good luck on resolving this problem. I'm with everyone else, show em they're not getting you down. Kymm

Okay, screw your mailserver. What kind of server software are you using and what do you know about directory permissions? You can get my email off my profile. I'll give you a hint: you're soaking in it.

KiDAcE ( ) posted Wed, 20 November 2002 at 4:11 PM

There are scripts for this purpose you know. Anti-leeching scripts. Some run cgi-bin others *.php, *.asp, and vbscript. I don't think I've found one in Java or javascript. It prevents links from being followed unless the click originated from with set parameters (your site.com) If coming from theirsite.com it wouldn't let them access it. There is another script to use in cojunction with that script.

KiDAcE ( ) posted Wed, 20 November 2002 at 4:12 PM

There is another script you could use in conjunction.....it's not needed. Just to clear that up.

ToolmakerSteve ( ) posted Thu, 21 November 2002 at 12:54 PM

Hmm. How about a password-protected site, I mean a SINGLE password shared by everyone, that you change often enough to discourage leeches, plus an e-mail list people can get on to receive a new password every week or every month? Then just don't allow people to sign up to the e-mail list using a free e-mail account (unless they otherwise are identifiable as friendly, via positive contributions here or elsewhere). Or, I like the suggestion about renaming the folder periodically. Easier than a password, and should still cut down leeching? Next month, I get to start down this scary road of making stuff available. Not looking forward to it after hearing sad stories :( You are so generous - plz don't let it discourage you :D
