Eye of Horus...here's one of my bookmarks on it :)

If you mean the eye symbol it is the utchat also known as the Egyptian sacred eye. The Eye of Ra (right image of eye)and symbolizes the Sun. A left eye image is the Eye of Thoth, and symbolizes the Moon. both images of eyes together represent the Eyes of Horus The Elder (whom Pharoh represent on Earth). Do a search on the web for the eye of RA and you will find a lot. Hope this helps.

This is pretty awesome ... there was a time when I was looking for an udjat (eye of Horus) for an image. Now i just wear one around my neck. :-) Another little tidbit ... if visualize this symbol in the middle of the forehead of a person it can help to tell you whether they're truthful and just, or lying and deceitful. If you visualize it and the symbol stays put, they are truthful. If it flies away, they're not. :-) Rhi

Ya that is the udjat, the eye of Horus :) I wear a ring with the symbol on my pinky. It, along with the ankh, is one of my favorite symbols. And it's so beautiful. nu-be... Hence why there is the religion/way of life of Egyptians - Khemetic :)

I'm not harshin' on ya, nu-be, just throwing in a few extra bits of info:

This bit is somewhat controversial, as there isn't really sufficient information to make the connection. I've seen a lot of the sites out there that say there is and few of them are academically credible.

alchemy - 14c., from O.Fr. alkemie, from M.L. alkimia, from Ar. al-kimiya, from Gk. khemeioa, all meaning "alchemy," perhaps from an old name for Egypt (Khemia, lit. "land of black earth," found in Plutarch), or from Gk. khumatos "that which is poured out," from khein "to pour." Possibly a confusion of the two.

Also:

E.A. Wallis Budge (THE egyptologist) notes in "Egyptian Magic" (pg.55-58) that this is the Eye of Horus. While it is sometimes seen in pairs -- one black, the other white -- as the eyes of Ra and Osiris, or the sun and moon: "... speaking generally, when the Egyptians wore the Utjat as an amulet they intended it to bring them the blessings of strength, vigor, protection, safety, good health and the like, and they had in their minds the Eye of Horus, probably the white on, or the Sun."

Interesting afternote on my typo in the last line: ON is another name for the Sun God in several other traditions.

as far as the origins of the Rx, that can also be the mortar and pestle used to grind the medicines and blend them together. I have seen it portrayed as such in signs for pharmacies.

Hi All, I am glad to see that my Eye of Horus "web sight" has been helpful to some people here. I am a photographer myself and have been quite impressed by some of the images presented here.
