Saw this link demo for the New NVidea graphics card.. take a look at these screen shots.. all were done in real-time... just imagine if Poser or the Daz new program could use these features... no more rendering... everything would be in real-time.. just incredible... no more waiting 2 days for a 3 minute animation to render.. it would take ... oh... lets say.... 3 minutes... Very impressive. It would be nice to see some of these features integrated into Poser or DAZ Studio. I doubt we'll see it in Poser 5 (heck, they're still using silly protection schemes) but DAZ Studio holds alot of promise!

Open GL is a requirement from now on for any 3D package. These are beautiful shots, but with Open GL we'd get better performance with any of the newer cards. CL is still fixing bugs, so I don't expect to see Open GL implemented for P5 in the near future, but Daz Studio is supposed to use Open GL. That alone will get me to buy it. I still can't figure out why CL didn't implement Open GL. It's been out forever, it's a standard for the industry, and it would have really improved performance. ...sigh... Maybe P6...

CL doesn't feel that it's worth the time and effort to implement it. Too much legacy code that they don't want to mess with (see P5). We've been howling at them for years (me, only for some months, anyway :) to do just that. Alamanos, it does nothing for renders, it would improve the document window and its speed by alot. On the other hand, with that quality supported, renders wouldn't be necessary, would they? What I'd like to see from nVidia is full OpenGL support in their GeForce cards and not just their QuadroPro cards. Why can't I get that type of "realtime" using C4DXL with a GeForce4 Ti 4200?

The amusing thing is that there is a porn version of the Dawn demo. The leaves were added as an after thought, and unamed Nvidia exec was reported to have said that they were "Bringing Porno to graphics" (link) perhaps somebody should have told him we got here first :) later jb

For those that missed it, Dan Farr posted a Daz Studio pic showing Open GL pre-rendering mode...looks very good.
