Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 8:11 am)
Updating the graphics card won't do too much for Poser 5. Depending on your use of textures, lights and hair, adding RAM will be a better investment. Open the task manager while rendering and watch the memory values. If your computer starts swapping while rendering, more RAM will speed up rendering enormously. For speeding up the startup of Poser 5, don't use Don as default figure. Using a much simpler figure like the old school default guy will notably speed up loading.
I agree with Valandar. A lot of criticism floats around here about P5. It does need RAM and sure, there are things it could do that it doesn't, but I too am a proud owner of this software and I really like it! I have a 1.2 Athlon, with 768mb RAM using XP. If I were you, I'd add a modest amount of RAM now and save for a system upgrade to something like 1.8-2.2 Mhz.
Ehh Hemm. It SHOULD run fine on any PC that meets the minimun requirements.

I haven't had a lick of trouble with P5 and I have a P4 1.9 ghz with 256 megs of ram. I haven't tried to render any large scenes with lots of characters yet though, (2 Vickys and a Mike fully clothed is probably the most) and I don't use a lot of super hi rez textures, but still 256 megs of ram has worked fine so far.
Thanks again guys. But I already know that there are people out there with better computers. I was, like, looking for one that had about the same criteria as myself. Good advice about the RAM! I thought that Poser used the graphic card just as any other application but I didn't want to go as far as to buy a Fire GL card. I was curious if there were something in an affordable price range that you've used. But OK... RAM it is... Bye!!

Hi guys and ladies! It's been a while since I was here. Glad to be back!I'm now the proud owner of the Poser 5 software but unfortunately my PC is a bit too slow for it to run as I would like it to.
I currently own a PIII 500 Mhz with 260 Mb RAM and a Matrox Millennium G400 graphics card. It runs on Windows 2000 with about 1GB allocated memory.
The best thing would be to buy a better PC all together but in the meantime, which graphics card do you think is the best one for running this software?
The G400 was a great card for running 3D software back in 1999 but let's face it... It's not 1999 anymore. :-)
I've thought about GeForce 4... but isn't that just for gamers?
Best regards..
