THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: FNG with Question

I've been messing around with Bryce for a few weeks now and am interested in doing a scene themed around a rail yard. I think I can get the basic modelling of the cars I want, but can't figure how to get the lettering and or texturing onto the basic primatives I'm starting with. I saw one tut on making labels that came close to what I want to do, but haven't had a lot of luck with it. This is a photo of a basic prototype I'm kind of looking to do for starters. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/misc-p/pgtx75708ags.jpg Any help would be appreciated. Great forum here. Picked up quite a bit from it already. Thanks! E

Best fastest way to do that is to make your model in another program. Metasequoia, Amapi, EIU, etc, and save as .obj. Then get uvmapper, use that to make a UVmap that will attach to the object and a map that you can alter in your favorite paint program. Overlay a photo if you like. I did a tut on the basics of how to do this.

Can model it in bryce also but it might take longer. That tanker in the picture can be done with a cylinder and 2 spheres. Depending on how far away the camera is, you may not see too many details.

That's what I was thinking. I ride around on those at work all night, so I'm pleanty familiar with the details. The main thing I may run into trouble with is the trucks under it. Then again I kind of had a night scene in mind so they may not need to be perfect. Also working on the track and a few other items I can't seem to find around. The only RR equiptment I've found for d/l looks European. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm looking for more local. Any suggestions on where to look? Thanks again for the assist!

You can try Sams3D, they have an excellent train set at a very reasonable price. 3DCafe might have something too. -kev

Night can hide a multitude of sins. Make sure we get to see the finished project. Lin
