Subject: Victoria 3

I did some searching in the forums, but didn't find the answer to my questions ... although I admit, I didn't read every single solitary post. So, is Victoria 3 primarily for Poser 5.0, or will she work in Poser 4.03 ... and will clothing items and mats for Victoria 2 work on 3? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to these questions, but I just had to ask anyway. :-)

Just from my understanding, Daz is not developing models to work primarily for Poser 5, but it should still work with it anyway. I think any model they release will work with Poser 4.03, as well as for their program that they are developing called, "Daz Studio". I don't really have any information about whether Victoria 2's clothing will work on 3, but hopefully they will. :) I hope this helps. :)

Dan Farr gave us some info earlier. To quote Dan: "Victoria 3 will have two base version. One that will have the new joint parameters and texture UV's and another that is backwards compatible with the previous Victoria clothing and maps. Because of the new mesh structure (higher polygon count) previous morph target packs will not be compatible." She'll work fine in P4.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Can't wait to see her!

I think I read somewhere that DAZ is not going to make Poser 5 items for another year or so. Everything they make is primarily for P4, but will supposedly work in P5. Melanie

I have a lot of DAZ stuff as well as gigs of third party free and commercial stuff for Poser 4. Even the most complex and specialized models I have seem to work just fine with P5. This includes Easypose stuff, slaved morph controls, everything. I, for one, am very very happy with P5 as compared to P4, particularly its file management and the fact that it doesn't go apesh!t every time you're missing a texture or geometry.

Thanks scupper ... it's good to hear something really positive for a change about Poser 5. Haven't decided yet whether I wanna' spring for it ... if I do, it'll be after the holidays, but you know, I'm kinda' psyched about the Daz application. Something else I've noticed (this is totally off topic, sorry) about the Daz clothing packages that I own, is that many times you can't use just one element of the package. For instance, I have the Adventurer's package ... you can't just use the pants or the top ... it's all or nothing. Same things with the jewelry in the Gypsy package ... you can't just use the earrings. Am I clueless and there's a way around this, or is that just the way it is? It's a little annoying sometimes. Are the clothing packages you guys have from Daz the same way, or is it just some of 'em?

Rhiannon, you can usually turn off parts of the clothing package in the heirarchy editor - depending on the item it works better for some items than others.

Rhiannon ( ) posted Sat, 07 December 2002 at 6:59 PM

Yeah, I've done that before, I just thought maybe there might be somethin' else I could do that I don't know about ... ever learning! :-) Thanks RPS!

You can also make the parts you don't want invisible by using transparency on the parts you don't want to show. Melanie

Rhiannon, I don't know the gipsy package but for the adventurers look at the material section : you can usually turn the transparency for one specific part (pants, cloak, ect.) to 100 % when just using the hierarchy editor would butcher the aspect of the cloth. There's even a set of MAT poses who do it, but I can't remeber who did it. Hope it helped. Pierre
