Subject: ADMIN Moderator Coverage

Lyrra ( ) posted Sat, 07 December 2002 at 7:20 PM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 1:10 AM

As many of you may have noticed, the Poser forum is down to two moderators from the usual four. We are looking for new moderators to replace them, but in the meantime please be aware that the moderators may take a little longer to respond than usual. We have to sleep sometime you know :) Moderators from other forums are helping out, so please be nice to them :) If there is anything you see that needs a moderators attention, please do not hesitate to email me or JeffH about it. Thanks! Lyrra the Overworked (Moderator)

Why do we need more moderators? We are so well behaved :-)

I'm game. Or I'm gamey. Depends on how you plan to fillet me.

Out of curiosity, what exactly is in the job description? So many hours a week of reading the forum? Being online and available certain periods of time? I'm in here almost every morning with my coffee so I'm tempted but I'd hate to commit without knowing all that's involved.

Gotta agree with Kendra... What are the responsibilities? I'm on often enough, but am not sure if I fit the profile you're looking for, guys.

We will try to help you out....I am on early in the morning and then in the day off and on....and I too would like Kendra's questions answered. We are on alot we don't know if we fit the profile either, but would be interested. Sharen

Biggest responsibility - keeping your temper and biting your tongue at times. Passions can run high, especially in this forum, and occasionally when you try to calm things down people start making interesting conjectures on your parentage.

Forum Patrol - nuke the warez requests, punt the off-topic posts to the appropriate forums (always a fun one to decide!), and try to keep things somewhat calm (without being a wet blanket.) As you have probably noticed, some moderators are more strict than others on things like OT posts. We need to balance a relaxed atmosphere with informative posts.

Gallery Patrol - punt the porn, the stolen pictures, and anything else against TOS. (This is almost always done after a discussion with other mods and admins unless the image is truly obscene. Be prepared to see some very disturbing stuff put up for discussion.)

IM alerts - respond to member IMs in a timely manner, usually these regard gallery pictures that the member objects to, warez requests, or posts that the member feels are unsuitable or devolving into a flame war.

Requirements - being respectful of others and having good communication skills. (Good communication skills means the ability to get the point across. We don't require perfect spelling and grammar.) An in-depth knowledge of the program is a happy plus. So is diplomacy. (And knowing how to copy/paste your long posts so they don't end up in the bit bucket if you take too long to type!)

Anytime you're unsure on something, you can confer with other mods and admins. There's usually at least a few others hanging around. To me, the hardest part is how to handle things if members disagree with your decisions. If you make a mistake, you need to be able to admit to it and do what you can to fix it. If you're sure it was the right thing to do, popular or not, you need to be able to stand by your decision.

Most of the time, being a mod is fun, but like everything else, there will be times when you just want to hit your head against the wall, over and over again.

Hope this helps!

"Most of the time, being a mod is fun, but like everything else, there will be times when you just want to hit your head against the wall, over and over again." Sounds like fun. ;) If you want to stick my name in the hat for consideration I could give it a go.

Gotta agree with Kendra. I can take quite a bit of heat, and can take a breath and remember "It's not personal, it's Internet"... while understanding how seriously some other people take the Internet. Count me in the running, if you want a volunteer.

I'm serious about my offer to help. I've moderated before, and no doubt can take the heat..I've been in the frying pan more than once :)
