does anyone know of a site where i can get some environment maps for hdri. or is there a way to make them? this is the kind of image im talking about.

http://www.debevec.org This guy is almost the inventor of what you're looking for. Lot of reading, but it has everything you need to know. Look for the link for "Light Probe Image Gallery" under the heading "Online Resources" AgentSmith

Electric Image Universe is big on HDRI so you might check www.universe3d.com or www.dvgarage.com and see if there are any links to resource sites. Or you could make your own in Bryce :)
