Subject: Can't apply hair or clothes

RebeccaSx ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 3:45 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 2:11 AM

I've recently tried out poser 4 but I find that I can't apply hair or clothes. It either just doesn't show, or a box comes up wanting to change the form ( so if I want to add boots, my model disappears and a boot is left) I did manage to get the hair to show once but I haven't a clue on what I did. What could I be doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.!! :)

You are probably pressing the wrong option to bring this prop into the scene. There is a single check mark and a double one....one will replace the current figure, the other will bring in a new figure....you want the later.

I've tried both, and tried double-clicking on the objects. The loads, but is invisible. If I use the thing on the side for editing and moving the hair the haid moves too, so it must be there but I can't see it. The clothes, aaugh, I think my people are just gonna have to be nekked for a while till I can work it out ;) Thanks for the reply

You may not be able to see the hair because of the transparency mask on it...it will show up when you render it.

to create new objects, click on the double check mark. If you click on the single check, it will replace the current object. Make sure you have the obj's for the item you want. Are you using default poser 4 clothes?

How do I get rid of transparency? I tried the clothes again and it keeps deleting my figure and replacing with the clothes, but keeping the pose I used...hohum this is harder than I thought

yes, default.

I had a look again, and the hair in the hair section does not have the double check at the bottom only "delete from library" and the single check mark.

Right, here goes with a quick and dirty explanation... Hair objects can be either Figures, Hair or Props depending on which library they are in. Hair that is in the Figures library will need to be loaded with the double check mark (or double tick as we Brits say), else it will replace your figure. Anything in the Hair or Props library will be added to your scene without deleting an obeject which is already present. Clothes are usually Figures, too - so they need to be loaded with the double tick. As for transparency, generally, leave it as it is. It will not necessarily show as transparent when you render the scene. It uses a transparency map to determine how transparent the obkect will be, and in what manner.

okay :) I managed to get the hair in the figure section to show. The other hair in the "hair section" still won't load though. I also managed to get the clothes to show, and stick by conforming it, BUT, when I get the clothes on her there are a few bits that seem transparent, so bits of her butt show through, her foot comes through her boot etc. How can I fix this? I'm trying to creat Rogue (X-Men) I've tried using the colour to fill in areas but it's not working.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 09 December 2002 at 5:03 PM

The bits sticking through the clothes may be due to the clothes not conforming correctly, or that you have morphed the body beyond the shape of the clothing. It could also be the case that you're using the wrong clothes for the figure. Posette (the default female figure) has her own clothes, Vicky and Stephanie can (usually) share the same clothes, Dina has her own, Natalia/Natrixa has her own and so on... A quick and easy way to get rid of parts poking through is to turn the underlying body parts invisible. Select the offending part, then go to the Object menu, then pick "Properties". Uncheck the option maked Visible. Et voila! It's the general way of dealing with boots and shoes - but don't feel bad that you didn't know; it took months of struggling to get Vicky's boots on her feet before I figured it out. :) Your missing hair in the "Hair" section may be due to an incorrect file reference, ie the Hair is looking for a geometry file that isn't in the right place. Maybe. It could also be coming into the scene in a stupid place (it sometimes happens), or it's coming in as transparent, which may mean it's not easily spotted. Best bet is to tell us which model, clothes and hair you are using.

Thanks for the help :) Um, I'm not sure where Vicky comes from, but I can't find her on my poser. I usually just use one of the default nudes etc. Do I have to buy models? Or is there someplace where I can get free ones to experiment on, also with clothes, hair etc. As much as I'd love to purchase some of the stuff I see I'd rather make sure I like the program and can work with it first ;) I might be using outdated models or something. I have managed to get one of the wigs / hair peices in the props section to work, but when I try conform it it disappears off her head and lands outside the screen area. How could I fix this problem? Also, when I change colours on figures and render them they go straight back to the original colour. * not my day, sigh * Also, how do you get your images to save large? When I saved an image of what I was busy on it was so small I could barely see any detail on the face / hair etc. Sorry, I know they r dumb questions, but I gotta ask to learn ^_^. Oh, btw I did the trick you told me about making part invisible so the clothes / shoes fit. It does but doesn't work ie: the clothes let her neck show through the top but I can't make any invisible without it looking odd. Any other tips? Thanks again to all of you guys who have helped me so far!!
