Subject: Importing Carrara objects into poser

d4500 ( ) posted Tue, 03 December 2002 at 12:39 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 3:18 PM

I'm having problem importing objects from carrara to poser. The textures get screwed up or render in poor quality. I have tried the obj format and 3Ds or 3DX format... nothing works. As a last resort, I tried to make a uv map (uvmapper) of the carrara's obj and it's unreadable. I'm using Carrara 1.1 & poser 4 pro. Thanks.

Obj format should work o.k. if there are no spaces in any material name or group name, and if every group has a distinct material name (instead of just "default" or "shader x" for everything). Poser 4 will always render worse than Carrara, not much you can do about that except upgrade to Poser 5 and try its snail's pace renderer, using whatever bug fix is current.

THanks. 5.0 is really a lemon. The updates help a bit. If you know of any tutor website (on importing) give me a buzz. Thanks again.

How bout going in the opisite direction? From Poser to Carrara? Anyone find out to keep the models intact as far as the models hierarchy, rotation limit constraints, and IK chains? Morph targets would be nice too.

d4500, Might check under 'geep' in Poser Forum. He's just finished doing a tutorial on hard edges in poser. - TJ

To do what Redclaw wants, I think Carrara would need a plug-in to import pz3 files, like Ray Dream may have done. Otherwise you're stuck with importing obj files and redoing the joint parameters.

mateo_sancarlos, I think it could be done in obj format, but as you say some dedication to accomplishing writing a plugin to do it would definately be required. - TJ
