Subject: Hardware Questions

I'm currently using Poser 4 on a Win2K system with 512 megs of RAM, a GeForce2 video card with 64 megs of ram, and an 800 mHz CPU. By next summer, I'll be upgrading to a new system and I wanted some advice about what I should buy. Some of the Poser files I work with mass out at 250-300 megs, which puts quite a strain on my system; sometimes I'm not sure that these files are going to load at all. How big are the files you typically work with? What kinds of systems do you use? Do you have any advice for optimizing performance? Thanks in advance, Guy

I can do no more than re-iterate what has been said before 1. As much RAM as you can shoehorn into the system. DDR works faster 2. A 1 Gb permanent swapfile (preferably on a separate hard disk) 3. If you are going for the DAZ studio instead / with either poser 4 or 5 a good but not cutting edge video card. Poser is CPU and RAM/memory intensive so the trick is to maximise the memory bus - look for a cpu's with large on board caches, large FSB's and match the DDR ram speeds to the motherboard.

Thanks! I don't often post here, so I didn't know about the technical forum. I appreciate all the advice. Guy

by the time summer gets here, most of this current equipment will probably be obsolete. I guess the most general answer is to get the most you can afford. ie. ram, hard drive, graphics card (poser doesn't utilize it yet, but it's just good to have a high end graphics card for the future. Computer technology is moving very fast, so try to get the highest cpu speed you can afford. I would recommend customizing a PC instead of buying an already built computer package, then you can choose exactly what you want.
